Taking the Leap, United States Marine Corps?
|
So ever since I graduated high school 2 years ago I've been thinking about joining the military but I was scared to be honest. I was going to join the air force because it was the least hard working branch (no offense) and the closest I would be to civilian life. I backed out because I was afraid of even the air force (again no offense). But recently something changed as I seen 3 of my best friends go off to boot camp and came back as someone that I've wanted to be for so long. So I made the decision of joining the marine corps. I told my parents but they like all parents say "your stupid if you want to through your life away". I know that there just saying that because they don't want me to go and they care about me but I want to do this. I'm 19 years old and my adventurous personality is being drawn to joining the corps. Any body have experiences through the marine corps and any advice?

I can't believe your parents would consider joining the Marines as "throwing your life away". What you will gain from any branch of the service goes far beyond throwing your life away. I'm not talking about the training or bennies. I'm talking about experience. |

Wait. They think the Marine Corps will be throwing your life AWAY? The Marines take people who are nothing and make them something on a daily basis. |

I have a couple friends who joined the Marine Corps. They left a lamb and came back a lion (so to speak). Their lives were changed in a great and wonderful way! They are leaders now, I respect them more than I ever thought I would be able to. I think your decision to join the USMC is respectable and I believe you will be glad of your decision!
Good luck! |

OK first its Marine not marine and Corps not corps. Look at it this way it is you life. It is time to cut the cord and become a man and the Marine Corps will help you do just that. Your parents are just saying that out of fear. They don't want their little baby going off to war. If this is something that you want to do don't let anybody and I mean anybody stand in your way. Fight for what you want and you just might get it. |

first things first make sure it what you want not anyone else. Rememer that the Marine Corps is the hardest branch of them. It is a 13 week basic training where you will be tested mentally and physically, the Drill Instructors will push you further than you have ever thought you can go then push you some more. Once you have graduated from boot camp and earned the title United States Marine you will go home on a mandatory 10 day leave. Afterward depending on the MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) you will either go to MCT(Marine Combat Training) or ITB (Infantry Training Battalion) because every marine is first a rifleman. If you have any other choice for jobs other than infantry you will go to your MOS school whereever it is designated for your MOS. This is a list of MOS' that the marine corps has for enlisted personel
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/marinejobs.htm
and remember that any job you want all depends on your ASVAB test and the GT score on it. The marine corps will be the biggest stepping stone of your life and will change you forever. Believe me no matter what your parents may think they will be proud as h*ll once they have seen you become one of the few, and the proud. To be a US Marine takes alot of hard work and dedication, as well as physical training so make sure your fit for service and good to go. Also the pay is exactly the same for every branch of service all along the board no matter what branch. If you have any further questions feel free to E-mail me at

Lol, don't be scared.
I did it & I am 5'2" 100lbs
The Marine Corps will be a great stepping stone to who you are suppose to be. I am very sorry your parents are not supportive...but it is your life & eventually they should come around. |
