Military Laundry Operator Territorial Army.
I am considering applying for this as a part time job. They say its interesting and has a lot of travel. I also know that it will involve basic training and that it involves providing laundry and shower facilities for field units.
But... what does it actually involve? And does basic training with the TA still require me to do a 3 mile run in 20 minutes?
Is the laundry operator thing basically loading machines with peoples uniforms and unloading the cleaned ones?
What does maintaining field unit showers involve? Replacing the soap and turning the hot water on?
Anyone know more about this role? Is it straightforward like I am hoping or unpleasant? Please give me any info, someone must have done this job or seen people doing it.

You know what it is, that is obvious in your question.
You are a soldier first, so yes, you do have to learn and pass all basic soldier skills, including the PT test.
Maintaining field showers involves setting up the showers, maintaining the water supply, usually by trucking in the water, monitoring water quality in the storage tanks, operating and maintaining the water heating devices, cleaning the showers, monitoring water usage, and breaking down the showers when you move. |

Think about this, you're on exercise for weeks on end,you are covered in dirt and you stink. You get a 2 day turn around of kit in the HQ build. You drop you laundry bag off and go for a shower. You feel great and thank the RLC soldiers then go to the NAAFI. Or you get to be the cleanest soldier as you can several showers a day and thanked alot for doing a job you get paid to do. |

yes you will travel, where people go, their pants go!
