they have statues in their honour and our government kicks them in the teeth by not letting them stay in this country , but we let everyone else in and give them loads of benifits even though they give nothing to this country . I am disgusted for the deciet by our so called government the Gurkhas are our friends and we should pay them the respect they deserve .

I hate the Government. They make all the wrong decisions. From what I've learnt these men worked damn hard and this is how they're thanked!? Disgraceful! |

how could i possibly agree with you, far better that the government lets in every deadbeat mass murderer from eastern europe than some of the bravest people to ever take the battlefield in our name. just another example of the government not being answerable to the people. how sickening to see the government minister trying to justify this betrayal, although why he couldn't f**k off to france to sort the real problem out, a problem of their making. |

I agree i think it is appalling when i served in Malaysia during the Emergency it was the Gurkha's protecting us in borneo during the Confrontation it was the Gurkha's who protected us
and when Hong Kong had problems Boosting the value of the British pound it was the Gurkha's who defended our assets and the Australians and the Americans were glad that Gurkha's were on our side in WW2
Is it not funny when idi Amin Kicked out 400,000 indians from his country after Independence the UK took them all and none of them had ever been to the UK they just had british passports from the Colonial days
I am Glad i don't have to tell any VC holder who happens to be a Gurkha
he is not welcome in my country the British Government did the same to the Burmese in WW2 an old man who was Highly decorated and a VC holder wanted to live in the UK was told we don't want you
I am pleased to say i got out before the UK Government turned into an EU clone
The commonwealth of nations were the UK'S friend and instead of joining them it Joined the EU and never gave a dam about the damage it did now Australia is in a better financial position then the USA or The UK maybe if they had looked after their friend they might have kept my respect but as the say
How do you know when a politician is lying his mouth is Moving
If i had my way i would invite them all to come and Live in Australia |

The Ghurkas are warriors, and deserve the utmost respect from Great Britain as a whole. They are arguably the best soldiers in the world. If it was up to me they'd be welcome, but who would want to live in England at the moment? Downhill fast! |

I can't believe that we are treating these great people this badly. I feel totally ashamed at the decision I heard yesterday. I signed the Joanna Lumley petiition last year as some of my friends also did, there were thousands of BRITISH people that signed it. It was all over national TV and radio - even Gaunty interviewed a Gurkha vet on Talksport radio and even HE was humbled by the man. How can it be that it was rejected then?
Without bringing too much politics cr@p into this, these people have been our gallant allies and won uncountable medals including many VC's in campaigns that go back hundreds of years. If I was in the unfortunate position of being sent to war, I would want the Gurkhas with me over ANY other troops from anywhere else on Earth. They are loyal, hard as nails, professional and just bloody nice people. God bless every one of them, I love them.
EDIT... thanks Ali G, I signed it again..... in a different name this time and we're up to 151,000 signatures. |

I believe that Gurkha soldiers, who complete service in the British army should be given British citizenship for themselves and their immediate families.
But before we go off on one, lets consider some facts.
It's unfair to blame the Labour government for their plight. Before 1997 NO Gurkhas had the right to stay in the UK, and their pensions were linked to Indian Army pensions, not British Army. This government was the first to allow Gurkhas, all those who completed service since 1997 the right to stay and assume citizenship.
The current furore is about those who completed service before 1997. While I believe they should be granted citizenship, do remember that when they signed up, they did so knowing it would not result in citizenship. It was not offered as part of the deal.
Credit to this government for allowing those Gurkhas who left service since 1997 to stay in UK - what a pity they couldn't go the extra mile and offer the same to those who left earlier.
P.S. EFC for the Cup! COYB! |

If they were known terrorists or pedophiles, they would have more rights. There is no justice in this world. |

Me. My husband is an Army Officer. He and all our military friends are sickened by the way Gurkhas have been treated. I can't see that with this level of anger both within the army and from civilians that the Government will get away with it. |

As you know my future son in law has recently returned from Afghanistan, thankfully safe and well, he was serving alongside the Gurkha's, was witness to the one who got tragically killed out their a couple of months back, he gave 100% credit to them all and praised their goat curry (!!) endless times in his letters home.
I, and i shall forward the link to him also, will definitely sign the petition in the link given.
As you said this country lets in anybody who has done nothing for this country, whereas the Gurkha's have fought alongside our British troops and should therefore be welcome in this Country. |

what pisses me of is that muslim extremists are allowed to live in this country so they can plan and blow everything up.
whereas the Gurkhas who have fought with and for Britain for a countless number of years get told that they cannot have a permanent residency here.
the UK will allow people in who they know that they will be on the dole and wont work a day in their life but the disregard those who have fought for Britain.

site shows the victoria crosses won by the Gurkhas
