The US Military was not defeated, the enemy has learned how to use the mass media to do a lot of their fighting for them. Remember how Jane Fonda sat behind an anti aircraft gun in North Viet Nam and made the remark that she wished one of our air plans would fly over at that moment so she could shoot it down? She should have been shot for treason but instead she walks freely because of millions of better people than herself, sacrificed them selves to defend this country. I feel some of the news people today in America should be ashamed of themselves "held accountable" on how they target the President of our great country while our men are on the battle field and being killed daily.

Actually, the media in the U.S. is fabricating the idea that we are losing in Iraq, just like they did in Vietnam. When the democrats say this is Bush's Vietnam, what they are saying is that they want to make sure that it is.

If you know anything at all about military history, which you obviously don't, the military was not classically defeated in Vietnam. The military's performance there was actually a victory, as the enemy's objective of overruning the south was never accomplished, and in fact, the enemy never won a tactical battle.

What happened in Vietnam is our government surrendered, much like the Democrats want to do now.

Of course, the situation is a little different. In Vietnam, there was the army of North Vietnam that they could decide had won that war. Iraq puts them in a very odd position.

If the United States has, indeed, lost the war in Iraq, as Harry Reid claims, exactly whom was it lost TO? Certainly not the terrorists, as surrendering to terrorism requires acknowledging them as an enemy to begin with, and that would demand a response.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the US threw everything they possibly could at the Vietnam conflict and were still beaten by a superior force comprised of peasants. That is simply not the case, do some research and see how the US military was reined in by Washington.

Can I be honest? It's difficult to know who is winning over there for the layman.The American soldiers believe that they are winning.and they provide statistics.The insurgents believe that THEY are winning and provide statistics.
The U.S. government acts like it is having difficulty by sending over more troops and then saying if that doesn't work they will consider other options.
The insurgents have had Saddam captured and executed and have lost Zarqawi, Oday and Qusay.
SO they only way we will find out if the US is defeated is when they leave and Iraq sorts itself out.
If the government is like it was before then the US will have lost.
If it is pro Western then the US will have won.
The US military is plenty strong but they can't get enough troops over there to do the job.The insurgent numbers are growing every day-it is a popular cause.
The strategy of the US military is attrition - to kill all the insurgents-simple as that.
The problem with that strategy is that the insurgents in Iraq are like Hydra's teeth-for every one of them that goes in the ground several more rise up to replace them.
Not only that-but the present day insurgents will be the future leaders and politicians in Iraq-if they succeed at expelling the Americans.

The most we can hope for in Iraq is to sustain the status quo until Iraq is able to take over their own country. The main objective was to get rid of Saddam Hussein and then to give them a chance for democracy which they may or may not want. The simple act of voting does not constitute a democracy. They will inevitably chose their own form of government and find peace in their own way.

I resent it that Reid said we lost the war. We can't win or lose this conflict. We are there to train Iraq's army and try to give them enough stability to take over. If we were there to win the war, we would blow up the Mosques and cemeteries where the enemy hides. We would go in to take over which we could easily do if not for the rules imposed on the military. If we did that, Iraq would turn on the U.S. completely. That's why they call it a quagmire.

The US Military were defeated in Vietnam due to a combination of events. Primarily and No.: 1 because at the end of WW11, having fought thru the Pacific campaign and at its conclusion stood arrayed with the best Jungle warfare veterans any participating allied Nation then had. Within months, these regiments were totally disbanded, not even remnants were retained to continue, enhance, improve, carry on and instill in other units what had been so dearly paid for.

But jungle wars continued. I.e. the Malaya War, fought and ultimately won by the Brits! Its phsical endeavours ranged for 15 years, final peace was not gained for 26 years after that!

The outbreak of the Vietnam War left the US without Jungle vets to fight it! So the Allies of the the British Commonwealth were loned, sent, to train the Americans and render the vital necessities of jungle warfare, albeit they were re educating the sons of their Fathers who had fought the Pacific campaign.

But the American high command ignored all advice they were given, American politicians played games and the American men paid the price, as indeed did many thousands of foreign nationals who fought in it!

We're trying to save a country whose infrastructure has been smashed and was/is in civil war.
Plus, you can't say if we won or lost in Vietnam. It was more like a cease-fire.

we were defeated in Vietnam because we just couldn't break the spirit of the people opposing us. also, our military wasn't trying to win.

Add to that, that it was a very unpopular war that was never Officially called a war (police action) and that we didn't start it, we ended up as the bagholder after everyone else bailed.

Nixon (a republican) promised to get us out of that war, and he did.

to "KELTILLOS" yes you more or less won every battle in the war but the sad story is you still lost the war...just like we are in IRAQ... and it does look like we will be leaving with our tails between our legs.... but of course we will still say we won... even if people like you wish to be leave we did....
