The thing about the Paras yomping to Goose Green was it was unplanned, and they had to do it because the helicopters were sunk after the Atlantic Conveyor was destroyed.

And it was quite a hike with all that gear ... then having to fight straight after!

Yes mate, but the other regiments weren't told to do it, so the Para's and the Bootnecks got the job done.
I assume whichever regiment you were in had it's own battle honours.
Why do you grudge the Para's and the Marines one of theirs?

They had no choice but to `Yomp` (not yopping) no helicopters and it was NOT planned.
Seems like you`ve got a chip on your shoulder.

You obviously haven't been to the Falklands and seen the terrain.

For any soldier to tab those distances with full rig (not just personal kit, but spare ammo and batteries for the associated kit like the MILAN's Mortars GPMGs Radios and a whole host of other stuff), at night with a low moon state, all the time in danger of being opened up on from the sky's and artillery fire means you really haven't got a clue of the immense achievement those guys put in.

And its nuggets like you that try to take away from the victory in the Falklands that should be ashamed.

Next you'll be saying that all the troops had to do at Normandy was walk up a beach.

As a side note its Marines that Yomp, while Para's TAB.

remember the marines did as well but i think alot of other regiments made that walk as well not sure might be something to look at.

It was described as yomping and not yopping. Were you ever in a front line unit in the army? Or for that matter, were you ever in the armed forces? Before you start I was. Also, I didn't care for the usage of the past tense of the verb "to do".

where it showed the paras and marines starting to "YOMP" across the Falklands , look carefully at the photos and you`ll actually see a wide track wich they used until the helicopters picked them up.Ask the welsh regt and the suvuvors from 16Fd ambulance who where on the RFA Galahad when it was sunk.the welsh were supposed to choppered into position but the so called elite "marines and paras got the helicopters instead.
