The best army unit in the world.?

I have it on some authority that the SAS are the best, them being essentially 'programmed' to accomplish their objectives without pity or fear or remorse. Look at Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who at the age of 63 completed 7 26 mile marathons in seven days in seven different continents !!!????!!!
And after his second un aided polar expedition returned to England and cut his own frostbitten fingers and toes off with a hand saw!!!!

Since there are so many different types of Army units, including specialized groups, there is no way that any unit can be classified as the best. A unit can be classed as the best in a particular function but not as the best in every function.

A Special Force can be great in its trained function and lousy in some other.

Do you think that an airborne infantry unit can be better than a hospital surgical unit if the mission is to perform surgery on wounded soldiers? How about an Administrative Unit trying to do under-water demolitions.?

its deff the (S.A.S.)Special Air Service without a doult, we always kick ***. As you said we do the training for other countries we been everywhere in the world. or even the (S.B.S.) Special Boat Service are the same As far as I know the S.A.S. has not lost a fight GOD SAVE ALL FRIENDLY FORCES

This question is all a matter of perspective; For example which is the quicker car, Aston Martin Vanquish or Lotus Elise, â€œThe Astonâ€ I here you all say, but this is questionably. The Aston would wipe the floor with the Lotus on a 1/4 mile straight but put them on a short twisting track and the Lotus would be first over the finish line; Its horses for courses. In that respect if your talking about Urban then its the Israelâ€™s or the Paraâ€™s(with 30yrs NI experience) if your looking at Jungle then your looking at the US Marines, but the RAF Regiment has got a pretty good specialist unit. If youâ€™re talking about Mountain warfare then there is none better than the Norwegians, for sheer never give up never surrender guts till the end then there is not many better fighters than the Ghurkhas. If its all out war on the plains of western Europe then the US 101st Airborne would kick a**e but like the Aston costs a fortune to run, but I think that the most Important Question to ask is Dollar for Dollar, Pound for Pound what is the most effective fighting force and with out a doubt thatâ€™s the SAS manly because theyâ€™re run on a shoe string with out of date equipment and little resources (much like the rest of the British forces)

I'm going to have to say Special forces no if ands or buts about it. But if you want to get into regular army groups it's the 101st airborne division based out of fort campbell, ky!

Only a few informed people are saying the SBS which would be correct. They are picked from the best of the royal marines, who have to endure the toughest training course in the world. They are more convert than the SAS and prefer to stay out of the limelight, which is why you don't hear so much about them.

I must say that the British S.A.S is more successful than the American SF.

There are alot of good units, gurkhas, S.A.S, Green beras, French foriegn legion. But sadly, it's not all abou training today, its the toys. A more well equiped person with better technology will beat a person with more training, easily. Ground soliders don't mean squat if they are incenerated before they even get their rifles ready.

THE S.A.S. they are superd in all forms of combat from jungle and desert warfare to urban ... i mean come on ppl ... the S.A.S. have fought the IRA in ireland for abserloutley ages.

Personally i feel the U.S. navy SEAL's are the best of the best. No unit comes close. Some of the missions that have accomplished and deeds they have done are unmatched. And best of all, they never leave a man behind.

the Gurkha regiments, if they were aloud in the sas they would make up the majority of the sas! strong, loyal and hard working soldiers and the most respectful people you will meet

I would say the french foreign legion these guys are always in action some where in africa or guyana in south america. These guys have an awesome reputation and a battle record to back it up. They take in the dregs of the world to this day no questions asked any country will do giving them people with loads of cultural info for ops in other countries a skill our army would kill for right now.

THE PARACHUTE REGIMENT ,basically because the s.a.s are made up from 90% of para,s anyway ,and p-company pre parachute selection is a good test of the human spirit,i was in the 1st battalion the cheshire regiment,who in my opinion are the best but i will say that,but the para,s are still my top unit,why do you think the locals in the areas they go to xxxx themselves when they know their coming

You lot are all talk I did 9 british army then 5 french legion saw combat in middle east africa.The best SF is SBS I had friends in the sas,also in british commados and british para's the british para's not that good we beat them in every miltary event in 80's while stationed next to them.The french legion basic training test's 100km march in 2 days carrying 60lb harder than british army 10 mile run.the uk commado's far toughter than uk para's who only fought 3 world armies mind you yank's are a waste of space isreal army only good at dessert combat again royal marines are the best

yes the middle east has more soldgers but are not trand like the USA Navi Seals, they are the best unit in the world. they are trand not to backdown surrender and will fight for there country and for there loved ones and for the best county in the world

SAS. NAVY SEALS only good when they have Technology...without that they are nothing........individual skill is very low.....
