right now the military is developing a counter attack, which involves a reverse engineered virus to take down this satellite. I believe it will turn out much the same as the alien ship in independence day.

Actually, they're working very hard at updating their Tin Foil Helmet technology to include not only keeping out alien mind-reading rays but also immunity to all kinds of viruses...should be up and running soon!
