Depends on what you enjoy doing. There is a lot of 'outdoor' areas for fishing, hunting, hiking or what have you in the area. Off of I-185 exit 10 (twd Atlanta) there is a pretty big strip mall with tons of restaurants, a strip mall, and a movie theater. There is a nice golf course on the post and is also one not too far north. The 'riverwalk' in downtown Columbus is enjoyable for some. The post itself has lots of family-oriented events and facilities. There is a relatively brand new gym on main post. There are some pubs and after-hours clubs on post as well. Atlanta is an hour and a half or so away and there is many things to do there, although it is not the safest city in the world. There is a bowling alley off of exit 8 I-185. Another 'inside-mall' off exit 7A next to Columbus State University.
To be honest I wouldn't really recommend Fort Benning if someone was asking where they should PCS too. It is good for any soldier since a majority of the Army schools are located on post, so it's an easy task to get slots to progress one's career. But it is what you make of it! Good luck. |

Ft Benning is right on the Georgia Alabama boarder. I was stationed there from 2005-2007. There is not much to do there. You can drive to Atlanta which is 1 hour 45 min away. There is a lot more to do there. Ft Benning is in Columbus, GA. They have everything else a town has. Wal-mart, movie theaters ect. Ft Benning has a bowling alley and well thats about it.
