Agreed. There is far too much anti-Americanism on this site and it's high time it stopped. I suspect that many of the people (UK) making these anti-American statements and remarks, have not actually met any Americans and know very little of the American way of life.

If someone posts a silly answer to a question and that answerer is located somewhere in the States, it's a safe bet that this person is a spotty teen, but not always.

If Americans wish to come on to the UK arm of the site, then they should understand that we are two nations separated by a common language. English, as she is spoke, is not the same as American, even though in most cases we understand each other. Often an interpretation may be required, most especially when us Brits are talking 'local' as of the NHS etc. This often baffles the Americans; not their fault. They won a war and went their own way, which does not include all the UK history since c1776.

While USA quickly arrived at 'democracy' it has taken us Brits right into the 20th century c1930s to achieve the same. So let's stop 'knocking' the Yanks. They got there ahead of us and are often far more sophisticated than we give them credit for.

Do not imagine, as is so often the case, that everything American is 'dumned down', it is not. America (USA) is an enormous country with a 300 million pop. It is far more diverse than UK will ever be with it's mere 58-60 million pop - inspite of what some Brits may think.

Look beyond the hamburgers and think of the fabulous musical scores of many famous Hollywood movies and you begin to understand just what American culture is really all about. The USA is full of fine art, theatre, cinema and much more culture besides.

In 2007 (not sure of date) the American NFL (National Football League) will be holding one of their most important maches right here in Capital City, London. It's going to be a BIG EVENT, with all the usual razzmatazz which surrounds American Football. It is estimated that half of America will watch this game live on TV. This is by far the best way ever of advertising London to the world and in particular the Americans.

The actions of the American state have a real and significant impact on the quality of life (in some cases the presence of it) of most of the people on the planet. Sometimes for good other times for ill. It is understandable that people would discuss it.
Lumping all Americans into one is I agree very sloppy thinking. Probably more than any other country in the world, the Americans are too diverse to be generalised, (except for this generalisation).
As for 'reverting' to intelligent, rational debate as 'we have been accustomed to for centuries'. Quite agree. clearly the rule for us highly civilised Brits. We don't even get enough of it in our Universities and schools and have built after hours venues, which you correctly identify, to continue the debating until closing time. With rarely more than fluids to sustain us.
As for Scots and Welsh and Irish, the English would not have gotten anywhere without them. The genius of Scottish engineers and scientists, the passion of Welsh politicians and the Irish are a basic necessity for any party. No Great Britain without this.

You have a point there - there's too much nationalism on here - nobody's impartial, neutral, objective, non-endoctrinated, nobody seems to accept that some things are better here and others there, our people are more likely to do certain good things but also certain bad things than yours, we all deserve the good things equally as much in the end

Nick's granddaddy landed on the Normandy beaches and went all the way to Berlin all by himself if you believe Hollywood's version of WWII (Well done to him). No offence is intended to him it's just the movies way of portraying WWII as a all american show.

I really do hate to sound predictable, but, I do remember history class with the text books that said that we "load of stetson wearing, gun totin', trigger happy, hamburger munching, fat reprobate hillbilly's from across the pond" lit up the English during both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, and that we bailed you out during WWII. I am tired however of people bashing on the good ol' US of A. Oh by the way, you can thank me later for not being a Nazi. I'll pass it on to my grandfather(he landed on Normandy Beach and went all the way to Berlin).
