You know, I think maybe it used to be that way or maybe it was just a perception since they were overseas so much but I see more of the women doing the cheating now, most of the guys I know who get divorced are doing so because they came home and found out or found out overseas that the wife was cheating. I would say it is no worse in the Military than in the civilian side as far as cheating goes.

I am an ex airforce vet, and this has absolutely nothing to do with the military. Men and Women in uniform are no more likely to cheat on their spouses as Civilian Men and Women. Does it happen on deployements sure it does, does it happen when civilians go to conferences and training.....sure it does.

That is a two way street. To answer your question, there are men AND women who lack self control and whose vows to their wife/husband mean nothing. I have deployed several times and can honestly tell you that the vast majority of personnel patiently did their jobs and went back home to their spouse and families.

The men (and women) who cheat on deployments are the same ones that would cheat anywhere they are, given the chance. It has to be in your heart to do something like that, and will happen wherever. I've seen many men and women who have the chance to cheat, but don't because of the caliber of person they are.

I am not a guy but my husband and brothers are military as was my dad. It is true a lot of male soldiers cheat while deployed BUT then again so do a lot of female soldiers.
As for those left back at home, yes some of the husbands AND the wives have been known to cheat. However there are just as many civilians that cheat. You cant just label all the male soldiers as cheaters, sure it happens but it is not just them.

Not really. Most of the people in the military keep it professional. However there are times when one may become tempted. I was once tempted with a cute little Air Force girl in Afghanistan. But I didn't do anything. I certainly thought about it though. I know it sounds bad but I had just gotten injured and she seemed very caring. Most people who do cheat are out of their comfort zone and want to re-experience something that makes them happy.

Some do, but no where near as much as the wives cheat on thier deployed husbands.

Being away from brings out the worst in soldiers. The temptations are there, and readily available. women, and sometimes men prey on a lonley G.I. in foreign countries. It doesn't feel like cheating at the time, and when being egged on by fellow troops who are themselves single, it is hard to remain true to vows. It is easy to get caught up in the moment, and regret later. Wives must be very understanding, and accept the fact that the soldier isn't thinking of cheating, it just goes with the situation.And the hormonal drives don't stop at the transition point. If he cheats while living with the wife, then that is actual intended cheating and should be treated as such.

I agree with the MSgt. it is very challenging on both sides of the marriage equation - but it makes your time together all that more special when you've both been faithful. Besides would you want your husband or wife to be killed in action because they were more worried about your fidelity than about performing their duty in a professional manner?
