Transfering while in DEP for Navy?

Transfering while in DEP for Navy?

Ok, as everyone knows the economy is in the shitter. My mom lost her job, and we may move in about 2-3 months. I am 17, and I will be going to MEPS and swearing in next month, so if we move, I'll be in DEP.

I talked to two recruiters at the same station; lets call them A and B.

Recruiter A told me, it is possible to transfer to another DEP station if, I move, however, because I did not sign in the state I will be moving to, they look down on me, and try their hardest to kick me out. I should sign here or there, he said not to transfer.

Recruiter B told me, they just fax, and transfer, and as eay as 1,2,3, I'm in a diffrent part of the country with no worries.

Whats the real deal? Is it a big deal if I transfer, or is it as east as 1,2,3? Give me the scoop!

Thanks Guys!

I would get both of them to put what they tell you in writing before deciding. If they won't, email them with what they said and ask them if that is they told you.

Once I had that, I would decide. Don't be a victim who says "But my recruiter said...".

If it is anything like the Army than Recruiter B has the good info. It is no big deal they just transfer everything to the MEPS you will be moving closest to. Just don't wait until right before you ship to check in with your new Recruiter.

My husband did this twice while in DEP. Bear in mind this was 18 years ago but what both recruiters said is partly true. The transfer, both times, was as simple as 1, 2, 3 and it was done. The DEP support at the second station wasn't good, though. Not that they tried to get him to quit or anything but basically they ignored him.

When he did his tour as a recruiter he figured out why. The DEP kids count for the recruiter that put him or her in. That recruiter is still responsible for them until they actually join. If they don't end up joining for some reason they count against the recruiter as in the Navy puts pressure on that recruiter to get someone new in. It's hard enough to meet the quota in some areas so you don't want to make up any people. So you're careful to answer DEPper's questions and to stay in contact with them. If you transfer stations you won't have anyone there who you count against if you quit. So you're sort of on your own as far as support. Or you have to go in and form your own relationship with a recruiter in the new station. It puts more pressure on you for your decision.

Recruiter A is an idiot, don't ever listen to him/her anymore.

They Navy will make this possible for you to move. You'll just need to call up the office that will be taking care of you and inform them of the situation, and they'll chat with your current recruiters about transferring paperwork from MEPS and the Recruiter office.

It sounds like Recruiter A is getting his butt kicked with his mission and he doesn't want to lose credit for you. An enlistee is an enlistee. Nowhere in anyone's regulation does it require you to not move before you ship. High school seniors could relocate after joining because a parent lost a job or was transferred. Go with recruiter B.

If you are on DEP you should have signed some paperwork, review that paperwork for limitations on moving etc. I don't think it would be a problem. Maybe a problem to the recruiter who put you in since it will lower his numbers.
