AD dental must be seen on base unless it is an emergency or the base you are at doesn't have a dental clinic.
Medical you are covered at base clinics/hospitals. If there is an emergency you can go but you need a referral to see a civilian doctor.
Family when their information is entered into DEERS then they are automatically enrolled into Tricare Standard. With Standard there is a yearly deductible and co-pay for each visit to a civilian doctor/clinic/hospital that is approved by Tricare. When the spouse gets the ID card they can change to Tricare Prime in which they are seen at military hospitals & clinics assigned a PCM there. With no co-pay or deductible. If signed up before the 20th of the month then it starts the 1st of the next month. If signed up after the 20th then it starts the 1st of the following month. For Prime there will be a card mailed to them. Standard there isn't one issued.
For dental it is United Concordia/Tricare Dental. For a single person (spouse or 1 child) it is $13 a month or for a family it is $31 a month. This covers 2 free cleanings and 1 x-ray a year. For all work done there is a co-pay that ranges on dentist and state. The max is $1200 work per year per person. |

Are you active, reserves or NG?
If you're active duty you will go to the on post dental clinic.
As for your family getting medical that should have been started while you where at BCT. They should be on Tricare standard and then once you get to your actual duty station you can sign them up from Prime. You could also have your wife go online and apply for prime from there (she can fax the application in to Tricare) To get dental for your family you need to sign them up for it if you haven't already. They can go to a dentist of their choice as long as they take the insurance.
ETA: I just saw your new question..... you need to get your spouse/child added to DEERS and then you can enroll them in Tricare. You will have to take her to get an ID card after you get her into DEERS. |

If you are active duty, Tricare may not approve your seeing a civilian dentist unless there is no way to be seen at a military dental clinic. Tricare can require you and your family to see military providers, at least initially, if there is space available. Military ID's are generally your insurance card, although for dental you should get the US Concordia (the military dental plan) cards for your dependents (they will have to go off base unless you are overseas or in an area where there is limited/no civilian providers). Call United Concordia (look up the number online or call Tricare) to get the info you need. |

you do not get one. your ID is sufficient for Tricare purposes.
you CANNOT SEE A CIVILIAN PROVIDER without a referral from your MILITARY one. period. you will not only have to pay the entire thing out pf pocket ( TRICARE will NOT cover anything that wasn't referred by your PCM) you will get into trouble for not following regs.
as for your family: their IDs are their proof of insurance. |

well if you are military you should already have medical through the military you will have to go to the on post dentist first to see if you can get a referrl off post and as for your family you should of updated your deers then you call tri care and get your cards sent to where ever you are at.
As for proof of insurance you use your DoD card in case of emergency just like at a hospital but as for going to a off base dentist you more than likely will have to pay out of pocket that is why they have dentist and doctors for the soldiers only is becuase of cost to take care of their own let alone they update it on your medical record you belong to the military they need to know everything about you inside and out for security and health reasons. |

You need to start by going to DEERS first and enrolling them. You will need your marriage certificate and birth certificate. |

First you need to look on DEERs to see if you are enrolled in dental. It isn't an automatic thing. You can sign up at United Concordia. If you sign up tomorrow, then you are going to have to wait until June 1st to be eligible for dental care.
Why do you want to PAY for dental care? If YOU go off post, to a civilian dentist it does come out of pocket unless you were referred to one.
When you say Tricare? are you meaning for medical or dental? The dental will come once you sign up whereas your ID is your insurance card for medical(yes for the dependents too).
You are also going to want to change from Standard to Prime for your medical. Not knowing what area you are in I can't give you an internet address. But once you get to post you can go to the Tricare office and they will go over all this stuff with you. |
