Our world was under one banner Rome's.. they had slavery of all nations, they overburdened the poor with taxes, people were miserable except for the upper class, ie the emperor and his staff. There was peace but there was no freedoms of any sorts, nobody wants that sort of stuff anymore that is why its divided now.

That whole one world government thing is awesome. Everyone united for a common goal for humanity. Problem is, even though everyone at the UN is supposed to make the UN their top loyalty, those pesky national interests still get in the way.
If the world governement thing truly did happen, who would get to be in charge? Talk about WWIII. The only way humanity knows how to sort things out is by fighting. It is, sadly, human nature.
