YOU are the disgrace. Our fighting forces are doing the best they can with an incapable administration and too little funding for what they have to do. Our military men and women are dedicated, do the best they can with the little they have in a country that is completely confused about what they should do. Put the blame where it belongs. nice inflammatory post but the reality is no country could referee that civil war. Everyone is killing everyone. Its so exaggerated in the news that somehow its Shia and Sunni etc NO there are factions within those that fight each other. If an accurate picture of whats happening there were portrayed you would have your faith in the US military restored because the only way to victory is to kill them all.

I make a genuine effort to understand people as well as the questions they ask. In so doing and after perusing some of your questions and answers, I am at loggerheads trying to understand why someone who has some intelligence, as evidenced by some of your answers, can reach the conclusion you have about the US forces and Iraq. I believe that you may be having problems with something personal and beyond your control that make you very angry. What this questions and some others represent is your displaced anger which is displacing your intellect. Do some self examination and see if this may be true. This may aid you in many facets of life.
Disgrace? No, the troops themselves have performed admirably and certainly have not disgraced anything. The USA has never fielded better troops! The 'victory' of 2003 we still have, the overthrow of Saddam and company, and that was an honorable event; the democratization of a backward, barbaric people may be beyond attainment, particularly with the adverse outside influences, but is not the fault of the soldiers there who continue to work honorably every day. They deserve your respect!

I'm against the present occupation of Iraq but to correct you, our military won the battle of Iraq .
Right now we are into occupation which was not very well planned out by Washington or the Pentagon. I even recall Cheney making the remark that our troops will be met with Iraqis bearing flowers!! How stupid can one get!!!
To remind you alittle bit, we are in the middle of a civil war and should have never allowed ourselves to be trapped in such a position. As to your remarks about how "embarassed" you are. Well, maybe you should enlist to straighten things up!!
I don't go along with you that our military performed poorly. They conquered Iraq quickly and with stealth, they removed Saddams evil sons and found Saddam hisself hiding in a hole in the ground. They were all brought to justice and were sent to meet their maker to stand trial in front of God Almighty for their sins.
You have failed to remember that body armor was not provide to all our troops and mothers and fathers were purchasing it and sending it to their sons and daughters. Proper armor was not on the vehicles and scrap steel was being welded on them in theater. With all of our knowledge and technical ability we cannot come up with an electronic way to neutralize or detonate IED's before we are in danger.
In closing I repeat that our troops are not an embarrassment nor have they performed badly.
You are entitled to your opinion but it is my opinion that you are very wrong and I stand by that opinion.

Your post is SO inflammatory that I have come to the conclusion that you're actually a pro-war conservative trying to make liberals look bad. But either way...and I speak as one of the anti-war liberals you're pretending to be...surely even you understand that it's the war POLICIES that are at fault here, not the soldiers who are only carrying out those policies as best they can. Think of the administration as the brain, and the soldiers as the tools. If the brain is sick, even the best tools in the world can't fix anything.

The problem is not the troops themselves, but our lack of obtainable goals, and missions. My husband is a US soldier, who recently returned from Iraq. His mission was counter terrorism. It is way too broad of a mission. And to top that all off, the military decided to take a "hearts and hands" approach, which meant when they were on guard duty, and saw someone messing with what could possibly be an IED in the road out of their base, they were not allowed to shoot, only watch...so the next day when a vehicle rolled out guess what? BOOM! That is not our troops fault, but the leadership's fault for telling them they aren't allowed to shoot. We need clear, pinpoint goals for the soldiers over there. Most of my husband's time was spent making bunkers out of sandbags, which were later torn down. The troops had NOTHING to really do that was worth anything. He does not feel they made a difference, and not to mention some of the losses from his company were due to FRIENDLY FIRE! We need to get out of there, many soldiers are only there because they signed that contract to serve, not because they think they made a difference. We are wasting people's time, and lives over there, not to mention the BILLIONS of dollars every day, but don't expect Mr. Bush to pull us out any time soon. But you are wrong to blame the entire US FORCES for the mess, blame president Bush, and other key leaders for a lack of proper obtainable goals, and for not having a clear and consice direction for iraq. I would like to see someone like you join the military, so that it could be brought up to your standards...if you can't stand behind our troops who are just "doing their job", then please go stand in front of them!

i'll tell you what, do you remember what happened on Sept. 11, 2001 ok then, if you have never been to iraq i don' t want to hear anything like that, our US Forces are Doing just fine i have been over there and have experienced all of it and if it was not for us yours and everyone elses freedom is at stake, cause if its not for us they would strike again, and it won't be good....so sit back enjoy the freedom you have, and let us freedomfighters do the dirty work.HOOAH!!!!
