USA is building military bases all over the world...is ok for China to do that too in N.America?

amid the g8 protests, are further protests in Czech, Poland, Phillipines, S.Korea, Italy re: the new American bases that are being built...the new embassy in Iraq is also bigger than the Vatican...
I think China should start doing this too...it's not safe to have one country that controls the world military...let alone one with egregious human rights and tortures people around the world.
So, would that be okay if China started building military bases in North/South America/ Europe as well?
Additional Details
The USA already has its military and military personnel stationed in over 160 countries, and spends more on its military than Russia, England, France, China combined....
these military bases are nothing more than Bush and the neo-cons trying to further the PNAC proposal (Project for a new American century)
Did anybody else see Putin make Bush like the simpleton he is when he mentioned Iraq....

The U.S. builds military bases around the world where they are asked to by the host government. When we invite the Chinese to build a base here, then I guess it will be OK for them to.

Actually EasySundae-------I don't there are 160 countries in the world and I don't think the U.S. has troops in many of the African countries (unless they're Marine gaurds at the embassies). I don't think we have troops in any of the extreme nations of the world (North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, etc.)

I think China invaded Tibet back in the late 1950's, that is why the Lali Dama is an ex-patriate. Aslo, they invaded the Kashmir province of India in the 1960's, and was in Korea in the Korean War.

Considering that China is the most populous country on the planet, I'm surprised they haven't already built military bases all around the world. What are they waiting for? They seem to have the most to lose.

Well, considering that all US military bases are built with the cooperation and approval of the host governments, I would invite China to do the same. If everyone says no, then they don't get any bases. It's my guess that we may someday see Chinese military bases at strategic points in Africa and South America, specifically Venezuella and Nigeria. This is where China gets a lot of their oil and Chavez would LOVE to shove a foreign communist military presence in America's face. What makes you think Chinese military expansion would be better then US military expansion? They will do it for the same reasons people accuse America of being in the Middle East for (i.e. oil), and given China's spotty human rights record I think it would actually be a good bit worse. you mentioned America's human rights violations: I agree that the US has fallen from grace somewhat, but I would consider that, while some sketchy things have happened at Gitmo, they haven't been NEARLY as bad as things the Chinese have done (Tienneman Square, putting political dissidents in mental hospitals, invading Tibet, etc) And I don't care what anyone says, water boarding and intimidation don't compare in the slightest with the mutilation, beatings and rope torture that Americans faced in the Hanoi Hilton. At least we use our military for some good (witness the humanitarian efforts after the 2004 Tsunami).

The U.S. military doesn't go to a country and say WE'RE GOING TO BUILD A BASE HERE. We do it at their invitation/ok with a lot of caveats included.

When the US builds/fixes bases, it has a contract with the government. The people don't have to like it, the government is all that matters. Get that fact straight first.
