Under what conditions would you be in favor of draft being reinstated?

The only conditions for me would be nuclear war, civil war, foreign invasion, or martial law.

I think we must realize we are the primary defender of freedom on this earth. That does not mean we must be war mongers, however, to keep what we have, it is apparent that it is necessary to maintain a military capability. This can be done as it is now - volunteer.

If war in the middle east were to escalate due to the nuclear progressions in Iran, and the UN resolution, for inspections were not adhered to as was the case with Iraq and there were no allied troops forth coming via the UN, than it should be considered.

Reducing the great country to the level of a 3rd world military or placing our troops under the direction of the UN is not acceptable. This was a possible projected plan which was courted under Bill Clinton, people have had a chance to think about it and are very adamant that it shall not be.

If the latter were to become the case, we should have a recall of the then existing president and congress.

To keep the US from becoming the battle ground, in a war, yes, we should reinstate the draft.

Draftees do not want to serve, they do not stay focused on what is important and they will get their fellow soldiers killed.

I don't think a draft would be a good idea. I don't want someone going to war against their will guarding my back. Even if they didn't have to deploy and stay stateside it would still be a mess. They wouldn't take pride in their work etc.

I think the military offers many great benefits for people but it is better if they are willing to come in, not forced.

Young men and women who did not choose to join the military will be bad for all sides and we may be looking at another lost generation or a new generation of baby boomers if that ever happens. That would hurt us both economically and sociably for decades to come. As long as we are a free country, young men and women will volunteer. We don't have a draft which means that the Reserves , National Guard, and IRR are playing a huge role which probably should have been the case during Vietnam instead of a draft.

I think it should only if we go into full out war with one or more countries, and that would only be if we were in drastic need of troops.

Anyone who thinks the draft should be reinstated has NO I repeat NO knowledge of the present day military. Todays military believes they are doing a difficult job that needs to be done and they want to do it.

Unless the US is in a major war like WW1 or WW2 you won't need to MAKE someone enter the military. Who going to do the job better someone who wants to do the job or someone who is made to do the job?

Today's military is much more highly trained than the soldiers of conflicts prior to the first Gulf War. That training takes time. When people were drafted they served for two years. Today your average military person has more time than that in training.

If you are looking for cannon fodder-- You draft. Anyone who says they want to reinstate the draft ask them these two questions. Why do you want to intentionally get the draftees killed? And what do you have against the draftees.

The military does not want a draft. I know I was in when there was a draft and when it was all volunteer. And you don't want a draft either.

The only reason it should be reinstated..is if we end up in a war the magnitude of WWII.
Currently all the services have adequate enlistment and re-enlistment numbers...those that enlist and re-enlist know the situation that is current regarding deployments and still do. So it's no surprise to anyone who does join or stays in the service...and to say it's wrong or soldiers are being thinned out is political rhetoric.
The idea to reinstate the draft was to instill fear and again for political reasons...nothing more.

yes i think the should bring back the draft so allot of them puffed up adders in Congress with no idea what it is like.the need to appreciator what the have but instead the want to micromanage. and do nothing.thy have forgo ten the work for us so what does that say about us i say get ride of them all

I think the draft should be reinstated for many reasons. One would be to push out all the weak and wimps to leave our country and flee else where to try to advoid being drafted. I think this would wake up America and many wimps would leave, because they are afraid to fight for their country. When this would happen it would open many real jobs for those who really want to work. I think also if you are an illegal alien here in the US you should drafted and go serve your time in our military, then when completed with the war you may be able to become a US citizen.

It would be extremely beneficial to everyone if the young healthy individuals the government has support through welfare since theyâ€™re birth could be helped one last time by giving them some direction in their life with military service. It is very disturbing; this large amount of young individuals that believe life is just fine living in and hanging out in these public welfare housing developments. For many this is the only life they have ever known.

There are extremely too many young, very healthy individuals with no direction in life that need to be directed into becoming a productive member of our society. Since the government and our taxes have already paid to raise these young very healthy individuals since they were born; this alone should make it mandatory for these young minds who have a very narrow concept of life, finally being shown a greatly structure family environment like in our military. This would greatly benefit everyone. If someone doesn't step in and guide these young and bored minds, many more will be lured into the family and money in the illegal drug market. I've watched this happen for three generations now; this history here just keeps repeating itself and keeps the illegal drug industry more profitable than the oil industry.

Why worry? There is no reason now or none that I can see to reenstate the draft. There is no other country in the world who could accomplish such a task.

I am in favor of it. As soon as they turn 18, every able-bodied legal citizen of America should HAVE to serve at least one active duty hitch in the Armed Forces and serve it honorably. If not then you don't get a job, loan, allowed into any college or university, etc etc.

It's their country too and they should have to share the risks like the rest of us who are actually proud to live here.

If Iran forces our hand which causes us to attack. I think that would be a very good time to reinstate the draft but then, I think we should never have gotten rid of it in the first place. It's a way to make children grow up in a hurry which would get many of those gang bangers off the streets.
