They can get drunk before they die probably. |

Yes as long as it is the law. If you don't like it do something to change it and quit crying. |

It is not fair ,but if I was to go to war and I don't have the age to drink, my only condition would be that they have to let me drink until I get wasted then they can put me on an airplane to the place in which the war in going on , so they give me a bottle of tequila or a 21 of beer in my backpack, a machine gun or a 50 caliber gun, nothing less, and that way if I die I'm not gonna even notice. |

I'm not sure that those two things are really on the same plane of experience. I believe that the people who start the wars should be the ones who fight them - especially nowadays. However, I'm not sure that it really matters whether a soldier is old enough to drink. One can't be a congressman until the age of 25; and I think the president has to be at least 35 to be elected. One could say, "If a soldier isn't old enough to make military policy decisions, s/he shouldn't be old enough to serve in the military." |

HELL NO it's not right....there are peoplet that are out for themeselves and if they can one feel important by going to to fight ina awar, so be it but then those who fight and put their life on the line might wnt a damn ber to ease the tension, they deserve it more than anybody, no they don't get, because who would the cops get to arrest? |

Yeah its fair... if you are going to die might as well do it while serving your country instead of just killing yourself with alcohol. |

No. Totally not fair. |

No,it's not fair.If they are old enough to die for this country they should be honored when they return home, because after serving in a war zone they are far beyond their actual age! |

another stupid question from an ignorant woman |

The two have nothing to do with each other, really, but let's go ahead and look at it logically.
Soldiers get a fair amount of education about how to do their jobs well from professionals. . . unfortunately, there are no such professionals, nor any recognized training courses, to create good drinkers. So I'd have to say that, yes, it is fair that underage soldiers can't legally have a drink.
Now, if the soldiers weren't allowed to vote, THAT would be unfair. |

gives you motivation to go fight overseas, no liquor laws there. |

No it isn't fair. That is life, isn't it.
Unfair.
Starving people in Africa, we throw food away.
Rich baby gets treatment, poor baby dies.
Single mother works fingers to the bone, married mother won't take care of her own kids.
Unfair, huh? |

We had this same argument back during the 'Nam. Both drinking and voting, and got both changed. Don't reckon we'll have any luck this time, though. The stupid thing is that binge drinking is now MUCH worse of a problem since the age was kicked back up to 21 than it ever was when it was 18.
FYI, military personnel outside the US must conform to local laws. It's 18 on base or post if local laws are younger. (Yes, many countries do not regulate the drinking age.)
Troops deployed in the Middle East theater are prohibited from consuming ANY alcoholic beverages regardless of age. General Order #1. |

underage comapred to what? age 18 or age 21?
yes this is fair if you are talking about 21. we appreciate them and love them for what they do, but they are defending our country for what it is...laws and all |

No but if they decide to enlist they only have themselves to blame-why fight wars on behalf of the rich & powerful who don't give a damn about you.Let them fight not draft dodge like Dubya & will Phoney Blair send his sons to Iraq_I don't think so.Have a beer instead |

Being a soldier is good for someone underage.. teaches them discipline, responsibility, etc... What does drinking beer teach someone underage? Total opposite.. how to be irresponsible, getting drunk, making poor choices, I think you get the idea! |
|

Princess

Ummmm...frankly I think there are more urgent issues to deal with than whether a soldier can drink a beer or not. Our soldiers are dying and I dont think their families care whether they are eligible to drink beer or not. |

This is such an old argument. Get over it. They moved the drinking age to 21 to keep it out of schools. How many high school seniors do you know that turn 18 before graduation? |

Excuse me, but I think that the law should still be the same. I happen to live here on base at Fort Bragg, and you don't understand what happens when you get a whole bunch of drunk underage soldiers running around. There are alot of drinking and driving incidents, domestic violence incidents, and the list goes on and on. They can drink when they go overseas to Europe. But the law should still stay the same. Yes they die for us, but that is the choice and the sacrifice they choose to make. I love my husband for serving our country, bt if he wasn't of age to purchase alcohol, that would be too bad. Also alot of military guys believe that since they are in the military, that they are above civilian law, and can break it whenever they want. I hear stories all the time from my friend that is a cop in SC. |

no i think if you are in the military you should be entitled to drink. but also there is a question of maturity involved. i hear the way my bf, who is a SFC, talks about the way some of the underage soldiers behave. just because they are mature enough to handle themselves in combat doesnt mean they can in everyday life. |

Yer but at a younger age your liver is still developing and drinking can seriously damage it and then you will be in and out of hospital costing you and the country money...... Where as if you go to war and die the states costs are just digging a hole! |

In United Kingdom you can drink what you like at aged 18 (ask Bill Clintons daughter) and i understand why America is later. Youngsters cant take the alcohol and tend to get over excited and act stupidly. |
|

Uppy
|
the reason its like that is because the 21 year olds will buy it for the 18 year old. but if the 18 year olds can buy it then they will buy it for all the 15 year olds. |

fuck you all, more people join the military just to stay off the streets, which is ironic because they probably think their going to die in some gutter, so they enlist( no one gets commissned because they thought they would end up in a gutter) and they do what they're told, 24/7 ie no matter your enlisted rank clean shitters/ kp, latrine or just plain do this mission and know that your most likley gonna die. I think that kid deserves a drink and if acts stupid well understand that he may just be dying tommarow and what suck is you care more that he puked in the street. how bout do us all some good and enlist yourself and stop making judgments on a life you know nothing about and are mad that you have to hear about sacriface when the entire armed forces know that you just pretend to give a shit becuse you think you have to. Im not asking you to give up your life to care about someone elses, im just asking you to let them have a good time before they give up they're life for yours |
