In WW2, Hiroshima was an industrial city with a large emphasis on military manufacturing. It was choosen exactly for that reason.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both civilian cities..but they also had military industrial use. During the war days the weapons were not as accurate as they are today...that's why they used to drop hundreds if not thousands of bombs at targets.
Civilian casualties were extensive and unavoidable...today's weapons with there accuracy can limit the civilian casualties to a minimum. |

Both (as many Answerers have noted). The irony of the horrific and terrible destruction is the LIVES WHICH WERE SAVED A NUCLEAR
DESTRUCTION! you see, the "irony" is not just the saving of the 10's of 1000's of GI's lives and no telling how many men, women, and children by a full scale invasion (see Germany city bombings WWII)
but that NO MORE CITIES ON THE ENTIRE EARTH have SUFFERED
since WWII -- not in the Cold War BEFORE the 1962 Cuban Missile Crises, not in 1962, and not in the Cold War since 1962. Not even between the USSR and People's Republic of China, Not by any of
Israel's enemies who have subjected Israel to generations of terrorists
attacks.
NO, THE DEVASTATION WAS SO HORRIBLE AND UNDISCRIMINATING that even Premiere Kruschev, was not supported to engaged the Americans in a nuclear exchange. THE RESULT HAS, SO FAR, LEFT US a planet unwilling to expand hostilities to the scale seen in WWI and WWII -- total war. Forgive others and just try to be a good person -- you will never understand all things in this short life. |
