Yes.I remember reading how Britain was all against doing anything about Hitler even though he had invaded other countries on their own continent.How did that turn out? Oh I remember they were getting their stupid butts plastered all over the place and America had to come and bail them out.

You mean the war in Iraq? Honestly, I don't think many of us on here are qualified enough to answer that question. Most of us are just living room commentators. As for me, up until a couple weeks ago, I was all for the war. I've since changed my mind because I realized that I have no right to judge, just like many of those who are against the war.
The fact of the matter is, that only the Iraqi people, and the service members who have been to Iraq or are there now can tell us whether the war was a good idea, or if we should still be there now.
Anyone else is unqualified to answer your question. Perhaps you should delete this question and resubmit it, addressing it to service members who have been there, done that.
Unless of course, you just want to make a political statement disguised as a question like many other askers on here. No offense intended.

No war is a good idea! Some wars like Iraq are worse ideas than others.

If you look at the big picture, Saddam murdered hundreds of thousands, he needed to get ousted, if you think 2500 of us is a large number, you need not live in America, we passed that number in senseless murders in one year every year. I felt safer in Iraq than downtown in the city I live in.
