What's the deal with all of the bad answers in the military section?
|
Between all of the ignorant questions coming out, such as people asking what are the chances of dying in the military, how can they join the military without ever going to war, how did your first kill feel, or trolls who say all of us are babykillers, we are getting people with legitimate questions about the military coming here. Some people are asking how to get promoted, some are asking if they can join with a GED, some are asking if they can join with a certain law violation, and some are asking how many dependents they can have and join.
While some people mean well, they are giving horrible answers or are basing answers on policies that have expired. For example, someone asked if they can join the Army with two kids and a person who is the spouse of a military member of a different branch straight up told them no and that the Army doesn't give waivers for anything, period. On the other hand, you have someone ask if they can join if they got two felony convictions and some civilian who probably doesn't even know anybody in the military told them yes, the Army will waive anything.

Yahoo Answers isn't exactly a Smithsonian research project. Information is worth exactly what it costs the user...nothing, in most cases.
Besides the trolls (who I wish I could shoot) there are the lazy students looking for homework answers, the wannabees who dream of being a Ninja Special Forces Assassin Ballerina, and the ones who aren't smart enough to use search tools (Google, for instance) that even a caveman (or infantryman like me) can figure out.
I think most of us that try to answer on here mean well enough. To the recruitment questions, my normal response is 'ask a recruiter', for which I usually get the 'thumbs down'. Oh well. I have thick skin.
In my 42 years in uniform, I was told time and again that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Having been on here for a few weeks, I would offer that the paradigm has changed. |

Because this is an anonymous public forum. Its like you are walking up to a random person on the street and asking them a question.
If you think this is bad pay a visit to some of the sections where people ask for medical advise... or even worse medical advise for their children. Its truly scary. |

What's the deal with you impersonating another respected YA user? See the real AD's profile at
http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=AjLuxISO6CxqFX2rpUzcmrzsy6IX;_ylv=3?show=6Fsliwlhaa
The real AD's account is still active. He's been a Contact of mine for some time now. I understand your envy of him, but it's really pathetic to take your obsession this far.
EDIT: Changing your ID name from "AD" to "Active Duty" doesn't take away from the fact that you are a poser. |

Policies do change depending on the situation. My question for the people who have been here for awhile is where are you getting your info from? If someone gives an answer telling the truth and has reliable sources posted to back it up then why do you go behind them, thumb them down, and tell the asker that they are SOL based on some policy you "heard" about years ago? In terms of enlistment standards, the best source is a recruiter for that branch, not the military spouse or girlfriend of a service member who is in an entirely different branch."
