What's it like to be in the United States Navy?

What do you do after you graduate bootcamp? Is it amazing? Did you think boot camp would be as hard as it actually was?

Boot camp was like Boy Scout camp, only more physical. Anybody can make it through by simply paying attention to what you are told and then doing it the way you were told.

After boot camp you go to your "A" School where you will be taught the job you picked at the time you enlisted. "A" School can last from a few weeks to a year or longer, depending on the job.

After "A" School you'll get orders either out to the fleet or to a squadron, depending on your job.

You will travel, a lot. They will work you like a dog. The pay is okay, but not great.

I thought boot camp was hard b/c I was 17 and everyone in my division was 24+. I felt alone but then I made friends with them. Every once in a while I see a few of them on base. Amazing is up to you and who you surround yourself with. If you pick friends that complain and hate the Navy you will to. If you have friends that are positive you wil think the Navy is great to. It is up to you what you choose to do with your career. If you let opportunities pass you then you will feel like you have missed out. I tried to do everything and anything that I can in my career. I have gone to many Navy schools, deployments, volunteer work, and COMRELs.

Navy boot camp had an easy physical requirement unless you are really out of shape, although the drill instructors can psych you out if you are not strong willed. (Strong wills are generally not what they look for unless it is the will to serve them.)

After basic training, it's a job; work, pranks, friends, enemies, office politics... it's all there. It can be fun, boring, un-enjoyable or dangerous depending on job type and your personality

You can not be fired/ laid off and they will not let you quit.
You are subject to recall for a limited time after your enlistment is up (if they need you) and are obligated by law to comply and report in.

If you are thinking about a military career. It may be beneficial to some people but read and understand all your paperwork and sign NOTHING until you understand what your are getting into.

Good luck

Depending on the field you are in it's pretty much like having a regular job, say if you went in administration you would probably work in an office.

Boot camp wasn't hard, unless it's changed not much physical training. If you know how to follow instructions you'll do great. If you are serious about joining or for infor talk to a Navy recruiter

You're confined to the ship when you have time off. In the Air Force, you can drive off base anywhere you want until your next shift starts.
