What the maximum amount of time you can stay in the military?
Are ranks MOS dependent, meaning as an 11B you cap at E-7 before you have to select another MOS to increase your rank?

The longest you can stay in is 40 years. But this is assuming you made the rank of General or Sergeant Major of the Army. Each rank has a retention control point, or a maximum time you can serve at that rank. For example, it is ten years for an E-4 but it is 26 years as an E-7. The lowest rank you can retire at, or serve until you hit 20 years, is an E-5 promotable. But if you retire as an E-5(P) either you are in a horrible MOS or you aren't doing something right. |
