What's the origin of High and to the Right?

I well remember this expression from my Marine Corps days. I know that it means someone is about to blow their top, but what is the origin of this phrase?

It refers to the tendency of an M16 on full-auto to climb high and to the shooter's right.

The position of high and to the right is a position of respect and power ( the flag is always positioned to the speakers right and higher than other flags)

This means someone is about to go into an authoritative power position and chew your @ss.....

I'm thinking that it was reference to a shot that was high and to the right which meant you needed to drop elevation and check wind-age left.
