What are Israeli, or any other solders expected to do when threatened by knives,and iron bars!?

A couple questions so far nobody has asked:

1) Seems like most of the "mob" (yes, that's what it is, a lynch mob) had knifes or iron bars. Why is that a part of "relief supplies"?

2) Why are there no "Westerners" on the big ship, where the deaths took place?

IMHO, the Israelis were set up. First four landed fine, then a mob, prepositioned inside doors, rushed them. The rest of Israeli navy commandos dropped to rescue their comrades, and gotten swallowed in the mob melee. Somewhere in the mess gun got discharged, and nobody cares who attacked first after that.

To answer your question: soldiers are expected to defend themselves. They may be courtmartialed afterwards for disobeying an order, but that's a different problem altogether.

The ships are approaching a declared MARITIME BLOCKADE. If they were willing to stop and be inspected, they would be allowed to gone on their way. They were offered to unload in the Israeli port where a convoy of trucks are ready to move the supplies to Gaza. THEY REFUSED! It was offered AGAIN after they sailed, they refused AGAIN!

INTERNATIONAL LAW ABOUT SHIP'S FLAG DO NOT APPLY if there is reasonable suspicion that the ships may be carrying ILLEGAL GOODS, such as weapons and war material.

San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea, 12 June 1994 wrote: 67. Merchant vessels flying the flag of neutral States may not be attacked unless they:

(a) are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband or breaching a blockade, and after prior warning they intentionally and clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally and clearly resist visit, search or capture;

FURTHERMORE, EGYPT SUPPORTS THE BLOCKADE! Egypt ALSO blockaded Gaza from their side of the border! (Which is being opened a little after this incident).

Blame it all on Israel? Don't be naive.

Oh, and another thing. You heard what happened to the supplies that was unloaded? Israeli sent a convoy of trucks with what they unloaded to Gaza. The local Hamas leaders DO NOT WANT IT. They turned the convoy back, DENIED IT ENTRY. They claim Israel held on to some of the material, and they want all or nothing.

They were attacked by terrorist with chains and knives and in the recording one of the soldiers said he was being shot at by a gun so they were well within there right to shoot to defend themselves. Especially after there were taking casualties as well. 2 men were hurt pretty bad 7 were wounded. around 50 of the people on the boats have ties with jihadist groups and almost every one of the people on the boats had large amounts of cash on them. Most did not have any passports or ID so there was something else going on. Not to mention they found a stash of bullet proof vest in the cargo.

Trained soldiers are meant to be taught appropriate force in the modern world, long gone are the days when the military was allowed to massacre anyone they wish. Why send in commandos from helicopters to a ship with no weapons was that really the only way to stop a ship?

This is the equivalent of me going up to a 13 year old and making fun of him until he swings at me then I stab him to death in the name of self defence. Israeli commandos had no right to be on that boat but the members of the boat had every right to fight off an invading army.

With regards to your comment about why all of Israel is condemned, it is because of how the Israeli government and people react to these incidents which is so appalling. Britain itself was involved in a similar incident when roughly the same number of people died and was called Bloody Sunday. The difference is British people condemn the actions of the British Army today and at the time, while in Israel both the government and people have defended this massacre on people who had no guns being attacked by fully trained commandos in international waters.

I don't care whose fault the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is I just want it to stop and just now it's Israel holding the guns and not allowing basic aid and keeping people in a concentration camp (and by concentration camp I mean a large area in which people are kept by force without trial, not trying to draw obvious parallels),

They're expected not to attack shipping in international waters, that's the law. It's hard not to feel sorry for those poor soldiers with their automatic weapons facing that collection of barely armed civilians, probs these dangerous terrorists were on their way to conquer Israel with their knives and iron bars, but i have heard that it's possible to stop shipping from entering a port without killing nine people. That's most likely terrorist propaganda that would only be believed by Al Qaeda sympathisers but it's still a story being put about.

"Innerceant people are killed in crossfire all over the world, only when Israel is involved, an entire country, is condemed!." - who's blaming the whole country? i just blame the aggressive government for so clearly not wanting a peace deal and whatever idiot ordered this attack. I've also heard that Palestinians do have some experience of being collectively punished but this is probs propaganda put about by people who won't understand that Israel is part of God's purpose, as outlined in the book of Herbert or whatever it was.

The Israeli action was illegal. It was against vessels flagged as Turkish in international waters and was thus an illegal act. A blockade is only legal if war is declared, there has been no such declaration. Under article 3 paragraph 1 subparagraphs a, b, e, f, and g of the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation it is illegal to (a) seize or exercises control over a ship by force or threat thereof or any other form of intimidation; or (b) performs an act of violence against a person on board a ship if that act is likely to endanger the safe navigation of that ship; or (e) destroys or seriously damages maritime navigational facilities or seriously interferes with their operation, if any such act is likely to endanger the safe navigation of a ship; or (f) communicates information which he knows to be false, thereby endangering the safe navigation of a ship; or (g) injures or kills any person, in connection with the commission or the attempted commission of any of the offences set forth in subparagraphs (a) to (f).

The flotilla was completely within its rights to defend itself from illegal boarding in international waters. By the way, only the IDF's video is available the flotilla's videos have been confiscated.

What are unarmed civilians supposed to do when threatened with automatic weapons and helicopter gunships? Of course, the Israelis were only defending themselves against Nobel laureates, 90 year old holocaust survivors and left wing politicians from all over the world, big brave men eh? I hope they feel good about killing unarmed civilians, it is all they know how to do really.

There is a Blockade and the "Demonstrators" had no business there. Israel offered to take the "relief" supplies to Gaza but was turned down. Prior relief supplier have been turned away by Hamas at the border on the Gaza.
