What are some Reasons why the military draft is bad?

Our military is doing just fine the way it is, why screw it up with a draft. That would do nothing but bring in people who don't want to be there and coming from backgrounds that disqualify them in the current system.

A professional army is always preferable to reluctant conscripts.

Furthermore as warfare and weaponry becomes ever more technologically advanced, so the need for professional and well trained soldiers becomes ever greater.

By the time you train individuals to operate modern military technology and understand modern warfare properly their 2 years conscription would have expired, therefore making the process pointless.

Many areas of the military increasingly require professionals who are willing to make the military a life long career and not reluctant conscripts seeing out their mandatory two years.

A voluntary army will fight with more courage and soul then a drafted army.

An army of 100 free men, can defeat an army of a thousand slaves (that was from the movie 300).

The military draft is necessary if we do not have enough troops during wartime. Of course it shouldn't be implemented in peacetime but I believe it's the responsibility of the citizens to take up arms if their country needs troops. Freedom is a privilege and not a right. Sometimes you need to fight for what you take for granted.

Conscripted soldiers are less disciplined - they don't want to be there
Conscripted soldiers are usually less well trained (as they only have a couple of years in the army, it'd be a bit pointless to spend 3/4 of that time training them) and so are more likely to die - and to cause deaths to their comrades
High casualty rates among "ordinary" people are very very bad for war weariness
It's very expensive. All those troops who would normally be looking after themselves (food, housing etc) are now living 100% off the taxpayer.
It's pretty unnecessary in modern warfare. We don't need human wave attacks any more.

Conscription is not necessarily bad, it worked well in WWI and WWII.
American citizen soldiers were the envy of the world at that time.

Cons:

Very expensive (unless pay rates were adjusted for draftees versus volunteers, which probably wouldn't happen)
Unfair - not everyone would be able to serve
Would lower the overall quality of the force (arguable)
Uneeded at this time

I'm a 16 year old guy and I think that every American should serve for at least one enlistment. This gives the proper respect for the country and gives back to the country for the right to live in it.
