Here is a little bit about me: I will graduate with a Marketing degree this year (I don't like it) and I have no plans after college. I also lack confidence in every aspect- interacting with some people, girls, standing up to people, etc. Some people told me that the armed forces (more specifically, the army) would be good for me. But I'm too afraid to be on the enemy line and I would much rather join a "safer" branch if there is such a thing. Would the Navy make me a better person?

If you already have a college degree and think you can be financially stable on the outside then I personally would not do it. In my opinion I believe the Navy will do nothing but increase your anxiety. You will be forced, especially on the ship and boot camp to be in many socially confrontational situations as well as lose ALL PRIVACY. Now i know u may feel that is what you need but I suggest you maybe join a club or perhaps start seeing a psychiatrist if warranted. I'm only speaking from what you have written but perhaps you may have Social Anxiety Disorder. If you do join the Navy you have to realize your life decisions are no longer dictated by you. It does have it's good points and yes I do believe it made me a better person. I have more of a drive to succeed I went to college, I have discipline, more self control and ambition. The Navy is not for everyone though and when my EAOS is up I will not be reenlisting. One last thing if you do join choose your rate veryyyy carefully because you better believe theres Sailors out on the battlefield and even if you choose a rate which is normally not out there the Individual Augmentee program is in full effect and you are govt. property so wherever they say go you go. i think the Navy is a pretty safe branch. you stay out miles in sea defended by battle ships and firing bombs at people miles away on land, i call that safe |
