What are some good ways to thank a veteran for his or her service?

Its as simple as shaking their hand and saying thanks. Believe it or not, just doing that is enough to bring many veterans to tears.

I've gotten many a handshake and a "thank you" from all kinds of people while in uniform, and that simple gesture never gets old.... no matter what kind of hurry I might have been in, I always take a step back and appreciate the support.

I've also been through many an airport, and been bought many a drink from an airport bar... It's always a safe bet a soldier can appreciate some alcohol ;-)

To this day I get a little 'uncomfortable'. when people stop me and just say thanks. Not in a bad was it's just I don't see my 20 years as all that, but it's nice when someone stops what they are doing to show you appreciation.

A simple Thank you and a hug. I see Veterans all the time and give them a hug and say thank you. They are happy when we do that

Try volunteer work at the VA or a local hospital that works with the military is a good start. If not near a VA or a hospital that is working with the military then send letters or shake a hand. These are a good start.

i love it when people come up and say simply.. thank you.. my father was in vietnam and i hear stories about how he was recieved when he came back from doing what was asked of him from his country so its nice to see that people might not support the war but they still support the soldier. im in iraq right now for the third time in 5 years and there is no shortage of support from the states here from care packages and letters from random people so it feels good to be appreciated every once and a while but one thing i cant stand is when people actualy think there supporting veterans by putting those stupid yellow ribbons on there bumpers

Write your State Representatives and ask them to end Stop-Loss and give us a bigger GI Bill.
