Mining uranium is a risky endeavor, but so is mining coal--and much more coal must be mined per unit energy, so I'd count this as a benefit. There is a small amount of radioactive waste, but it can be recycled, or easily contained because it is solid. Not really a health risk, unless you eat the stuff (eating any heavy metal is not advised). There exists the possibility of industrial accidents during construction, refueling, etc, but I suppose such risks exist at all power plants.
Your best bet is probably to focus on historical nuclear accidents, while glossing over the fact that they are exceedingly rare or even impossible with current technology. Offer up alternatives (wind, solar, tidal) and hope your opponent isn't aware of their shortcomings. |

radiation poisoning and a blowout are the main risks. However, safety protocalls have increased which is why nuclear power plants take at least 10 years to make. In newer plants it is practically impossible to have a blow out, and the walls of the power plants are thick to make sure no radiation gets out.
