i know you have to be the same rank, grade, AFSC and skill level.. but thats about it.. and how do i go about getting all the paperwork together..?

You can apply after 17 months at your current duty assignment.
You cannot do the pcs untill you have 24 months at your current duty assignment.
Thats 24 months at the base, not time in service.
You must have 24 months time in service remaining after the permissive reassignment.
Which means, it is impossible for someone with a 4 year enlistment to request a permissive reassignment.
Unless you reenlist first.
You just won't have the required TIS left after the move.

NOTE: there are no military cost to a permissive reassignment
The member requesting the assignment must pay all cost for the move and take leave time to do the move. |

You cannot do that anymore. AFPC put a stop to that due to cost requirements associated with PCS and OJT. Now, you just submit your preference worksheet and AFPC will assign you your location and job based on the needs of the Air Force, while trying to factor in your preferences and your chain of command inputs.
Once your PW is submitted, or even before, you can be pulled to move...usually given 3-6 months notice. In most cases, for CONUS locations, you need to have been at your current base for at least 2 years before AFPC will look at your PW...in some cases they may not even look at you for up to 6 years. For OCONUS locations, usually between 1-3 years is when they look at you to move. |
