There were lots of different pistols used in the civil war. In those days, there were a lot of local gunsmiths who made guns--many civil war pistols were hand made, single shot muzzle loading types that were put together in a some little gunsmiths shop somewhere.

Of the mass produced versions, the 1858 Remington Army, and 1851 Colt Navy were pretty popular. As was the Colt Dragoon.
