We are fighting for Oil. We're also fighting to make some people richer than they are. We're also fighting so their our rights can be taken away while most everybody says amen. There may very well be other reasons...
One thing we are not fighting there is terrorism. There were not Al Quaeda people in Iraq until we got there and there were no Iraqis involved in 9/11.
If you are seriously interested in the reasons I suggest you read Greg Palast's "Armed Madhouse." |

A lot of people were killed and tortured and raped under Saddam Hussein and his sons. One of the sons would pick women off a college campus, rape them and under their religion the women is "soiled" and dirty and wants to kill herself or her family wants to kill her. Sometimes they raped women in front of their husbands and tortured them and their innocent children. They were evil. What we did, they appreciated...at first. Now they can't let go of the hatred and resentment they feel for each other and they distrust us too. We were trying to right a wrong. Now we are trying to get them to a point where they can govern themselves, but it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon. Maybe it took an evil dictator to keep them scared and in line to keep the piece between them. I still think they are better off now. It is too bad so many Americans have died. |

If I may ask a question before answering yours? Who sends the military into combat? Why do we have a military force? The armed forces do not just pack up one day and say I am going to invade this country. A country I might remind you where thousands were tortured and whole villages wiped off the face of the earth because of the dictator who was in power. What are we doing there now. Trying to stabilize a country that will explode into internal fighting the minute the last service person boards a plane out of the country. We are trying to avoid mass murder on a grand scale. We are freeing a country from being tortured again! What are we doing there????????

Me, Me, ME... that's all your generation thinks about. Why do "WE" have to get something out of it... why can't we just help an oppressed people and teach them to survive without being bullied by their government? |

we almost won jeeeeez! all the news shows tell u that we're doing bad in iraq but have u noticed that they shut up about the whole thing!!!! That probably means we are doing great there because the news is all against America it's crazy! We need some pride in our country!!! We are fighting so that these people will not come over here and fight here! THESE PEOPLE HATE US! if they could they would blast our heads off! we hav to make sure that they do not! Everyone things- no they won't maybe if we just sit down and talk about it they will listen. But you only think that because you were taught goodness and kindness. these people were taught anger and destruction! If we win we get knowing that they aren't gonna try as hard to come over here and take away our freedom! I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I DO NOT WANT TO BE FORCED TO WORSHIP ALLAH! |

some post up there says that iraq had no terrorists in iraq before we invaded pure bs. There were hundreds of cells all over iraq but layed low until we came along then they emerged from the darkness they have always been there.
we went to iraq to give them freedom, the gift of man |

Would you rather have the enemy come here to fight? They attacked us on 9/11/2001, did you forget that. What would it take for you to stand up and defend your country? If you won't stand behind out military are you willing to stand in front of them. Many people in this country enjoy the freedom but are cowards to fight to keep us free. |

pay attention, it seems you are missing out on some information that would enlighten you. It's all around you, open your eyes. If you don't think we stand a chance YOU are on the wrong side. Shut your mouth and support your country, silly girl. We'll go home when the job is done, however long that takes. |

We are fighting to liberate 27 million people from a dictatorship and a 7th century ideology that enslaves people, brutalizes women, and crushes everything in it's path. Further, we are fighting to destabilize a region of failed states that spreads terror from one end of the globe to the other.
We are spilling our Soldier's blood so that our civilians don't have to spill theirs - it is infinitely preferable to have these terrorist twits come over to Iraq to fight our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines than it is to have them over HERE killing our civilians. That's why we're IN the military.
If we win, we get to keep Western Civilization and pretty young women like you get to continue to live independent lives with education, careers, and choices in clothing without being beaten and enslaved by your male relatives.
I do think about it, and not only do we stand a chance, we're winning. Handily. Follow the links and educate yourself. They link to my blog where each article links to several other articles by some of the people who are IN Iraq. These are some of the best writers on the 'Net - I think you'll enjoy them and it will change your point of view completely.

EDIT: Wifey - Incorrect. Over 95% of our Military WANTS to be there until we've WON. Check the surveys and talk to some military folks. We'd all LIKE to be home, but there's a job and a mission and those come first. This is why they keep setting records for re-enlistment by the units IN Iraq and why the folks who've deployed usually volunteer for further deployments.
*sighs* No folks, it's not about the oil. We get a TINY fraction of our oil imports from Iraq (about 5.4% - we get three TIMES as much from Canada). Added a link to a Victor David Hanson article on why we went in to Iraq. PLEASE read it people. |

11 September, '01, America was attacked. That was a stupid move. We took the fight to them.
I would rather see the entire Middle East destroyed by war than have one American civilian injured by an enemy.
It's a cold simple fact. |

That is just nonsense. We get middle east allies, oil, stability, respect and peace at home to name a few. Shouldn't you be outside hugging a tree? |

ON the one hand we are fighting a Pre-emptive war to avoid another war! thats how Pres Bush is doing it.
On the other hand the military is fighting a war for global domination in the name of a Global ONE world Organization.
many soldiers fight for the illusions of freedom. being patriotic to the WTC in my opinion is not the same as being patriotic for constitutional freedom. There is a difference. |

The war was orchestrated as a means of extracting taxes from the poor, and funneling the money to the rich through lucrative defense contracts.
The winner will inherit a multi billion dollar debt. |

You are correct. "We don't stand a chance". Iraq did not do 9-11 and there are no WMD. Fighting in Iraq does not give me more freedom or lack of freedom in the USA. The war is based on lies and the USA will pay big time in the long run. It will end up like Vietnam. Losing. |

Nobody is really sure. According to Bush, we're fighting the terrorists and trying to establish Democracy over there.
Of course, there were no terrorists in Iraq before we invaded. Changing things in a very old religious culture will be challenging. |

Sadly, we are fighting for oil. Which is rediculous because we use less than 5% of our own oil reserves in Alaska, but our government doesn't want to use our oil, they want everyone elses.
Go to www.ivaw.org , it is Iraq Veterans against the war, and will shed a LOT of light on your question. |

Oil, and to make a U.S. Presence in the middle east from which we may lauch other attacks in the name of "homeland Security" on other countries, well, i don't include myself in your definition of "we" although i live in the U.S. i disagree with war as a means to make peace. |
