That's about right. Britain is the dumping ground of Europe. |

If they stayed in those areas they would most likely be assassinated
This is Britains way of saying thankyou |

these people risked their life, remember there are plenty of extremists in iraq. it is either this or let them go back to their country and be executed. i think it is noble of the british to do that, obviously the tabloids will have a field day. |

I actually agree with that. It's the right thing to do, otherwise they'd be killed. |

Are these the ones that the British army told we would protect, and when the British army pulls out of Iraq will by systematically executed? |
|

Well, said Alberto

They are dead if we leave them behind... would that make everyone happier ? |

well done to them for working themselves and their family out of a bad situation, and 2000 immigrants is nothing to the 3 million in britan at the moment,
besides when soilders retire they get taken care of, pension, etc, so why should these people who have braved the same dangers(and probably others) not get the same treatment? |

its the least they deserve in countries where collaboration with the British is seen as treason and you get executed. |

well, they deserve to be protected. And it certainly not an easy job for them, they will be the first to killed should any being captured. while we can't give them all secret service protection, but relocation to another country would be good.
Relocating them to some other arab country probably wouldn't be a good idea. Furthermore, Arab or European, they surely wouldn't want to have to provide them all those stuff anyway.
Its either US or British that will have to take them.. |

The people are just interpreters, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are Afghan or Iraqi nationals, does it?
Anyway, judging by some of the pond life that posts answers up here, I would imagine that getting some educated foreigners would only improve Britain's social cachet. |

These people have probably saved many British lives in what they have done when obviously risking their own lives to do it.
This sounds only the fair way to repay this as somebody else has said if these people get left behind they will be killed.
I would rather have 2000 pro british than the 10s of thousands anti british that seem to live here. |

Sounds to me like proper gratitude for good, risky service. Those guys hung it out on the line, risking not only their own lives, but the lives of their families, too - And they weren't even military, but were civilians.
I think any country should be grateful to receive such courageous and dedicated immigrants.
Classy move, and I applaud the United Kingdom for their proper observance of their debts of honor. Would that all nations had such honor. |

If they are being resettled in Britain because it IS too dangerous in their own countries for them, then we are not winning the wars.
That's my thought. |

Thats ok with me It sounds as if we are doing the right thing by them. |

They have served our cause in Iraq and Afghanistan!Perhaps Blair and Brown could put them up at their house!! |

It's no less than they were promised, and it's bad that the government had to be shamed into doing this. The US has been doing this since day 1 of the war. |

I think we should accept them. These people did risk their lives as interpreters and others as informers. We couldn't have operated in Iraq without them. WE are indebted for their help. if they stayed after we pulled out they would be murdered and their children if we left them to their fate. |

Well at least they speak english |

that's cool it's not safe in Iraq for Iraqi LOL |

The first thing that comes to mind is are you sure its 2,000+ Iraqi's and Afghan's? Where did you get the number from? (A LEGIT web site link or name of newspaper would be helpful). There is no way that many will be allowed to come to Britain with benefits. The Iraqi reporters did Britain a favor, which is why they are being relocated. They probably gave valuable information or were covering areas that were dangerous. They aided the British army, which is why they cant live in Afghanistan or Iraq anymore. It is like a low level drug dealer blowing the whistle on a higher ranking member. They need to be relocated and have protection or they will be killed. |

this is a case of the PC brigade working at full tilt under government supervision, yes they helped, yes they deserve some recognition but why here?,if you work out the cost it would run into millions yet the government cry since this war began is that there is no more money hence troops are being killed through lack of equipment ,where is this money going to come from?,whats wrong with spreading these interpreters across the globe, does America or Europe not have the room,or did the interpreters only work for the British army. |

what about all the young people here that are on a council list and never seem to get enough points, or to the top of the list, and can not afford private housing, where do they live. |

That is great that they will have some benefits. I wonder what the service people will get? I can be happy for someone, but I still would like to see the joy spread.
Cheers
