If I join as an Officer what major benefits would I receive and how would the pay be? Will the military give me plenty of experience to pass my PE test?

The P.E is a Professional Engineering exam that can only be taken after 4 years of experience.

In order to take the P.E. exam, you need to get approval from the license board. They require 4 years of experience working for someone who is already a P.E.
As one of the other guys pointed out, there is no need for a P.E. while in the military. It's when you get out that you will need one. The chances of working for a P.E. in the military is pretty slim. The experience you gain will no doubt be sufficient for you to pass the exam. But since you probably won't be working for a P.E., you won't be allowed to take the exam. |

Join the Navy and Seabees, you'll have plenty of experience in building and supervising of it.
Officers make more money than enlisted grades.
What is PE? Physical Education? If so explain your case to your instructors. You be doing lots of spare P.E. while they laugh at you. |

You can be anything you want...all officers get paid the same base rate according to rank and time in service. You'll have no use of your PE license...except if you decide to become a civilian government contractor and work for the Army Corps of Engineers. Otherwise, you'll just be an Officer like everyone else with a degree that is not usable in the Armed Forces. You do know that being a Civil Engineer pays ten times fold than the military? You forfeit pay for military ethics and lifestyle! Prepare to guide your path in life the way you seem fit!
I'm going for my B.S. in Surveying Engineering, and it'll do no good for the Corps, just the fact that it allows me to pursue my goal in becoming a Chief Warrant Officer; a commission doesn't appeal to me! But having a RPLS license will be beneficiary if I perform work during my off-time of duty hours. |
