What changes after you become a Navy Wife?

You will see a small increase in housing allowance.

You will get an ID card and be able to get on base, shop at the NEX, etc without him being with you.

You will also be enrolled in Tricare and be able to receive free medical care at the local medical facility and you will have dental insurance.

Then of course, when he transfers, you will be moving around with him. The Navy will pay a higher moving allowance to cover the cost of moving two people instead of one.

This all happens has fast as you can process the paperwork.
I think it took me about 2 weeks to get the ID cards, Tricare enrollment, etc done after I got married.
That's about it.

Make sure your boyfriend (fiance?) has told his chain of command - that is very important.

Once you are married, he will update his Page 2, and update his status in DEERS, get you a military dependent ID, set you up with TRICARE (medical/dental). You will have base/NEX/Commissary rights. He will get BAH "with dependents" - how much depends on where you are stationed, and how long depends on how soon he tells his command and how quickly it is processed by PAPA DET - very command-dependent. The sooner he tells his CoC, and the sooner he updates his Page 2 once you are officially married, the faster you will get the additional BAH money.

I don't understand why you are asking about money though. You can't be rich with being married to sailor. I was working when my husband was still in the Navy. I didn't want to rely on his money. Well, I didn't want to be a housewife either! Instead of money, I want you to think about what if your future husband would deploy and how you would spend that time without him.....or do you? My husband was stationed on the ship so they were out to sea quite alot and whenever they were gone, it was a couple of months or somtimes more. It was sometimes difficult but I had something else to do while he was gone. So, I was definitely not a depressed wife/fiancee or even gf. There are so many things that you have to deal with once you become a Navy wife. You'll see the other sailor wives and specially I didn't like the base he was stationed that was terrible. I was working there. I had no problem with female sailors but wives. (Not everybody though) whenever "boring" wives don't like a situation they are in right now, they mention "do you know who my husband is?" Well, NO. I don't sleep with their husbands!!!! Of course it's not only nagative things. We had a hard time sometimes specially because his command wasn't the best. Oh well. Congratulations on your marriage!
