What deceitful methods do recruiters use to trick youngsters into joining the military?

We must be more vigilant than ever to protect our children.

yea they confuse you on what your going in for. the soldiers themselves come to our school A LOT, but i dont think the soldiers know that they are getting us into something we dont want. i think they are just told to tell us what they have done and they give us key chain holder things and book covers and pencils, playing cards and brochures........

none. bottom line is, the "youngsters" have complete control over the situation until they sign on the dotted line. and your child is more likely to be killed in detroit than iraq. as a parent you are the one that is accountable if your child gets "tricked", you are the one that raised them and taught them. personal accountability.

They don't. They offer what the military can give them. Usually it is the young adult coming in that has selective hearing and then realize the military isn't a free ride and you have to put in some serious time to get those perks. That is also why the parent should feel free to invite the recruiter to the house or go with them to see the recruiter. The parent shoud be pro active.

they stand there and ask if you want to join the military!!! oooooohh scary! there aren't any tricks since our military is entirely volunteer based.

People who sleep under the blanket of freedom that we provide, and yet they believe what they want.

I spent 23 years in the military and it was the best thing ever, and recruiter never told me anything that was not true.

That's why people need to do research before joining the military as well, if you are unsure of what a recruiter is telling your child. Also, there are some great recruiters out there who will look for the best interest of a person looking to enter. Not everything that you see on CNN about military recruiters is true.

you are an idiot, stop provoking people

Didn't you complain about recruiters before? I'm going to tell you the same thing I said last time, you have the right to say no.

If you think recruiters lie to get troops in then you are mistaken. If a recruiter lies and is caught he can be relieved and will face UCMJ action. If a recruit thinks he was lied to then chances are he had "selective hearing." An example of selective hearing would be a recruiter telling a recruit that some troops get an opportunity to attend college while on active duty, but that recruit mistakenly thought that EVERYBODY gets a chance to attend school while on active duty. Then he ends up thinking that he was lied to when he doesn't get a chance to go to college because he has to deploy.

Sharliz, telling someone they will pay for college is not a lie because the GI Bill and Tuition Assistance does that. Yeah, you might die in the military, but you can also die in a car wreck on your way home or get shot by a gang member or disturbed student while you are at school too.

Recruiters don't use deceitful methods. The naive recruits don't LISTEN and ask the right QUESTIONS, and assume that they can just change their mind after they sign up.

I'm sure some will say anything you want to hear, there are stupid people in every profession, get used to it. My Army recruiter never once tried to feed me that stuff, I came in and sat down, and he asked my what my intentions were, I told him and he helped me find the information I needed.

Show ONE iota of proof that they do.

They don't trick anyone. They are all over 18 and want to join. The military is not a bad thing. It is a very good way to get an education

Every recruiter I've known has always been honest about the amount of work the military takes. Nobody gets tricked. If they're young, they even advise they bring their parents in so they can talk to them. The military realizes that young people want incentives, perhaps they couldn't otherwise afford college and service is the best way. So the military offers those incentives. Not to lure them in, but because they honestly like to see folks better themselves. Sounds crazy and manipulative, right?

Recruiters don't use "tricks". They lay the options out on the table and the recruit decides whether or not they would like to accept that option. Of course the recruiter isn't going to tell the "youngster" that it is a difficult and challenging job. The truth is that it is not until they have joined the military that they realize that there is actual work to be done as well. Recruiters don't usually lie or use "tricks". And to your statement "We must be more vigilant than ever to protect our children" it is not you who are protecting our children by scaring them from the government, it's those of us who accepted the difficult and challenging job of protecting our free nation. Because we do a harder job than you could imagine we get perks, and a recruiter will love to tell you what those perks are.

just because you need to believe that to make you rself feel better about doing or giving nothing of you rself to this country doesnt mean everyone does. There are contracts that are signed and as in any contract what is in writing stays. I have heard more car salesman deals gone awry that enlistment's. You stand on the sidelines of the world and say what you will, the exertions of better men and women than yourself give you that right.

Its a mystery............cuz no girls are involved in it.

All recruiters bend the truth a little. All of them do. Most of the time it's "Yes you can be stationed there "and" no you will not go to war.

george zip
they tried to get me to sign my contract without including the fact that i am a college graduate, hence less pay. also, they lied about the job i wanted, they said it closed out and i couldnt get it, then i told them i wasnt interested in joining and then all of the sudden the job i wanted opened up. those are 2 examples, but guess what? isnr protecting your children allowing them to join the military? who else will protect them from the real dangers of this world? us in the military, thats who!!!

Primarily it is lying by omission, it's what they don't tell you about the experience of working for uncle Sam.

"We'll pay for your college kid!"

--hehehe...thats right, thumbs down, but we all know thats the 1st thing you tell them when you walk into their highschool classroom
