We worked 12 hrs 6 days, 6am to 6pm there. We would go to downtown Saigon outside the main gate just about every night to drink in the bars. Curfew was at 10pm, so we would go to the NCO club onbase and continue drinking. Most of us averaged 4 hrs sleep a night. That would kill me now. Days off would be spent going to movies on base or in Saigon or just walking around downtown seeing the town. They had American movies at the Rex theater dubbed in French and with 3 subtitles, Chinese, Vietnamese, and English. Sometimes the subtitles were mixed around so you might miss the scene by the time you found and read your line. |
