What do Marines think of going Infantry? It's what I'm going.?

What do Marines think of going in the Infantry? Every person I've talked to said it was stupid. Even Marines who picked different MOS' said it wasn't the smartest thing.

My personal reasons for choosing Infantry over other jobs is pretty simple. I figure if someone is going to have to take a bullet, it should be me. I couldn't stand to have my brother stand in front of me while I have to perfectly good legs to stand beside him with. I'm not knocking other jobs, but even the Marines in my family who were in Personnel and other jobs said their jobs were far less dangerous. (I know that there are a lot of front line jobs other than Infantry, armor just to name one.)

What do you think? Please enlighten me why you think it is stupid if you do.

I know that in the end it's what I think that counts, but I want to know why so many people think it's foolish. Especially with the reason I stated. Which, to me, is a damned good reason.

And if you are a Marine (no such thing as "were" a Marine, I know that much) and in the Infantry, your input is especially valuable. First hand and all. But Marine opinions as a whole are valuable, regardless of job or term of service.

Civilian input is also useful.

It isn't stupid.

Infantry, Armor, Arty and Aviation are really where the 'rubber meets the road' -- the real military. Many of the non-combat jobs could be replaced by KBR, but not those.

I would only ask, why Marines? The Army offers the same jobs, with the same equipment, but vastly more opportunity in job progression and base assignment.

Going into the Marine Infantry would have to be a serious bit that you want to do...I've known many Marines that were open-contract and went into the Infantry and they had a miserable time, that they did their 4-years and got out! I wish only they had patience and lat-moved into another field. The Marine Corps isn't that bad, although it is very stressful and demanding at its moments.

I been in the Infantry field since I first enlisted...still in it... but that was because I strived for it. I love it! Except that the only skills that can be incorporated into the Civilian Division is becoming law enforcement or security with communication and leadership skills. But you can get those skills anywhere in the CivDiv.

But I don't plan on staying in the CivDiv forever, it'll be a waste of my time, and a waste of the Corps' too! It is something that you must want to do, and knowingly that you'll be gung-ho about it as you do it. Marine Infantry isn't a cakewalk, so...ensure that is what you want to do. I love the Infantry because it is the only thing I know how to do, and it brings me closer to the bullets so that others won't have to be. I led from the front.

some people love and some people hate it all about the individual but if your gonna be infantry , i recommend you making it a career because if you decided to get out the military it can be hard finding a job (due there no legal job in civilain side that pay you to shoot people) except if you take the law enforcement side .

some grunts regretted cause they get out lets say 12 years in their 30's no college degree and they be making 30-50k unlike some Marine the was Aerospace or high tech job that be making 80-150k or more when they get out and they probably had time to get a degree to due their laid back schedule.

good luck whatever path you choose.

My philosophy is that everybody should pick a job that matches their skills. Then do the best job possible at that job. My husband picked logistics, but that is what he is good at, and did a great job.

Now he is switching to infantry because he has increased his skill at shooting.

I don't know that it is balls or brains that picks your job. Just a feeling that it is where and how you are meant to serve at that time.

Good luck, and God bless

if you join the military and are a man, you go infantry. you will learn real discipline, leadership skills, and you wont be a POG (person other than grunt) [aka worthless idiots who support real soldiers]. who wants to join the military to do paperwork? you join to serve, deploy, and help out fellow soldiers.
