Nuclear Weapons

They affect the world the most to this very day. They also caused the Cold War to be a lot scarier.

Its the most important because its the most destructive and needs to kept a steady eye on. However, this weapon also lead to nuclear power and other advancements.

Either radar or the atom bomb

Radar had revolutionised how we monitor enemy activity, and nuclear weapons have provided man with the most destructive man made power ever unleashed

The use of a nuke did not advance the science - it just showed us how brutal mankind can be. Don't fool yourself. Hopefully we have learned from our mistakes? 1/10th of the US or China military budget would end world stavation- Maybe we didn't learn very much?

Definitely atomic development. This led not only to the military applications but also to nuclear power both in the civilian and military sectors. Someday this will be what drives our space crafts as well.

It would have to be the aircraft carrier as it changed the face of warfare and even today the carrier is the deadliest weapon available (not including nukes for hopefully obvious reasons)

If you mean importance as of benefit to humankind, then I think the ability to harness nuclear power - not necessarily as a bomb - more for the ability to use nuclear materials as fuels.

Recall that before the arms race to develop the first atomic bomb, nuclear reactions were proving very difficult to control - there was the almost painfully slow attempts to extract the 'heavy water' isotope of Hâ‚‚O prior to developments in Oppenheimer's research.

Now nuclear energy can be harnessed in power stations - much more proficiently overseas than here in the UK - but it is a double edged sword. Atomic bombs are now many times as powerful as those landed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and what was potentially the greatest technological advancement from WWII has the potential to destroy the human race completely.

The two most important technologcal advances of WW2 from the British point of view was first RADAR and having it in place and working before the Battle of Britain of 1940.

The next most important techno advance was ASDIC - which enabled Royal Navy warships to detect U-boats beneath the surface of the sea and to get an accurate messure of the depth etc. Thus, depth charges could be set to go off at that same depth and hopefully blow up the U-boat(s).

ASDIC was up and running long before WW2 - so strictly speaking it was not a WW2 techno-advance.

They tested their ASDIC on HMS Antrim in 1920, and started production in 1922. The 6th Destroyer Flotilla had ASDIC-equipped vessels in 1923.

Other than the Nuke, The Amphibious Tank and the Automatic Rifle are good candidates.
