What do you think about a military draft for women?

A draft won't happen anytime soon, but if it did, women should be equally drafted. They push for equal opportunities to serve in all parts of the military and every other male-dominated role, so they should bear an equal share of responsibility for protecting the country at large.

There are good and bad aspects to the draft, but the US will not have one again unless it becomes involved in major combat operations against a large country (China?). This is simply because the military does not want a draft.

One of the best points trainers can make is that everyone in the military is here voluntarily. It puts everyone on equal footing, and certainly benefits morale.

There are only two benefits I can think of from a draft: numbers and shared responsibility. The easiest and fastest way to drastically increase the size of the military is obviously through a draft. Shared responsibility means that everyone (well, every male age 18-25 anyways) will equally share the burden of fighting America's wars. If they included women, this would further increase the drafting pool and expand the equality of the shared responsibility.

In my opinion, the negatives outweigh the positives as long as the military can handle its taskings with a volunteer service. Not everyone drafted would be vehemently opposed to serving, but enough would to exacerbate training issues and threaten morale.

As far as politicians go, the only one I know of asking for a draft is a Democrat, seeking it for political reasons. My impression is he thinks that would force the American public to become more pacifist, less willing to sacrifice those conscripted into service than the willing volunteers. These same politicians would probably push for women to be included for this same reason. If the death of a conscript makes 100 people anti-war, then the death of a female conscript would turn 1000.

IF THEY WANT EQUAL RIGHTS THAT MEANS EVERYBODY FIGHTS. I'M ALL FOR IT. IF MEN START TO GET DRAFTED THEN WOMEN SHOULD ALSO BE DRAFTED. IF WOMEN WANT TO MAKE THE SAME MONEY AND HAVE ALL THE SAME RIGHTS THEN THEY MUST BE ABLE TO HOLD THEIR OWN IN ALL FIELDS. YOU CAN'T HAVE EQUALITY ONLY WHEN IT'S CONVENIENT.

They are always biitching for equal rights-they, although i am a female too, because I don't talk out of my as s, just to blab about something I'll regret. I'm all for it=-a good lesson will be taught, like how to appreciate this country a little more and our fellow service men and women, and that freedom isn't free.

After showing that an all-volunteer military can work in the US, I don"t think that there will ever again be a need to draft anyone... of either gender.

I'm all for it. If women want "equal rights" then women have to take the good with the bad, you can't scream equal rights out of convenience.

For decades women have been claiming they can compete equally with men, I say prove it. Of course most women only say this, but don't mean it. As an example, when I was in the Navy, combat ships became open to women and a majority of them ended up getting pregnant when they found out how tough it was to do the same job as men. I'm not saying this is representative of all women, but seriously if you want equal rights and equal pay then step up to the plate and get drafted.

i dont think women should be drafted i have female family in the army right now but it was their choice they wernt drafted

Our volunteer Army is the best in the world, and we don't need a draft. Only those who want to destroy our military readiness and turn it into a social work program are for the draft. And I don't care what you think about women's rights, They don't belong on the battlefield. Sorry if that sounds chauvinistic, but I draw the line there. I know there are exceptions, but generally, especially at close-quarters (like urban warfare), women don't have a chance.

More Americans need to do their part! Why should so few sacrifice so much? If a draft comes, all should serve! This includes rich, poor, college kids, etc. , and yes women should serve as well as men.

I think it is suitable for women if the are to work in unit Headquarters and administrative activities.

Nothing good unless it prohibits women from combat rolls. Administrative, nursing, and other vital support rolls could be maintained however not putting women on the front lines

Bush wants 90 thousand more troops. Therefore draft, male and female. Therefore more demonstrators will hit the streets. War or invasion ends. Period. End. All over.

To draft young women into the military is to ask mothers to transfer guardianship of their children while they serve.
To draft women without children is one thing,(although I don't support that either), but mothers should not be drafted.
