What do you think about the draft again???

I personally think they should. In my generation they had the draft.. When they run out of people to enlist where are they gonna get them from? I have an idea but I won't say...I better not go there... So what do you all think????

FORCED service? in China maybe!
our men and women CHOSE to serve, that is a huge sacrifice. i would NEVER ask that of someone that was not mentally or emotionally prepared to do what our service members do. it's NOT for the faint of heart!
and the draft only applies to the MALE population, when there are SO MANY women that are overseas right now. are you suggesting that we also sacrifice our daughters, our mothers?
i think not. |

Are you thinking of prisoners? The military doesn't want the draft. Soldiers morale is best with an all volunteer force, and this was one of the lessons learned from Vietnam. |

NO... The best military is a volunteer one...
and from what I hear we dont have an enlistment/re-enlistment problem |

I would have to be convinced that the draft would be applied equally and fairly before I would support a draft. What I mean by this is that not only would the children of the wealthy and famous be subjected to the draft, and that they would be required to give actual service instead of getting cushy state side assignments. Also, I think it should be men and women who are subject to the draft, not just men. |

If the draft were fair and everyone of a certain age, were all drafted, it would be fine.
But we live in the real world.
So, we better start promoting peace, instead of promoting democracy. |

I feel everyone, male and female, should be required to give 2 years to their country as soon as they turn 18, or graduate high school, which ever comes first.
This way they learn discipline and maybe even a job.
I was drafted in 1968, on my 20th birthday and sent to Viet Nam as soon as I finished training. I didn't like being in the military and doubt I would have joined, but it did help me. |

Why? So the US can attack and destroy yet another oil country?
Hasn't the US made enough enemies so far? Hasn't Bush sent enough people to their graves already? Is more shock and awe dished out to weak countries that never did anything to the US something to be proud of? Then look at the hundreds of billions of dollars those military gung ho's flush down the toilet with nothing to show for it except destruction. The US should go home and stay home, quit making up WMD lies and instead become a moral and kindness example. |

I am so glad that I live in Canada (no draft). Even though this is the most "Bush-like" Prime minister ever, I'm so glad that we are not participating in Iraq. I am proud that we are helping in Afghanistan though because even though I'm in a different country, when 9/11 happened I felt so close to all Americans. I was scared, worried, outraged and empathic like all of you.
With all the conflicts world wide and the global warming issue, the world seems unsure right now. I usually day dream through out the day wondering which of these is most deadly. |

Right now there is no need , but if the need arises then that would be great. There are plenty of patriots who will go voluntarily , as long as the liberals in the media don't run them down and treat them like the enemy. |

no draft. you cheapen the service of the volunteer service member. plus the current armed forces would not want to serve with those who do not want to be there. |

I think if everyone had to do some capacity of military service, we'd have a whole lot less crime and immorality in this country.
Current kids (and I'm in my early 20's, so don't think I'm some elderly person saying this) have absolutely no feeling of responsibility or drive. It's pretty sad and pathetic and I believe we should have each of them serve their country before they are allowed to accept their country serving them. |

It don't think it will seem like bull$hit if we leave iraq and get attacked again would it?? If you really think that by leaving Iraq we are gonna have peace and we will live happily ever after,
IN YOUR DREAMS! Intellegence has already analysed that if we leave Iraq, it will get so bad and horrible we will have to go back in a worst situation putting our troops in way more danger! You gotta face reality, it ain't that easy!
A draft will be good if we need it, i won't mind, i'm already a Marine. |

Well no they shouldnt bring back the draft. It would just produce problems amongst the troops. Soldiers that dont want to be there wont be as quick to take orders form those above them. And strait up some people just dont belong in the military. The military doesnt want to go back to the draft. However I do believe that there is something wrong with someone who would not stand up and fight for this country or support the people who do.. I spent ten years active duty Army infantry and I would be there right now if I was able. God bless all those who volunteer to serve. |

In today's very technical military, it's impractical, but universal service in a separate militia of some type would be fine by me, to have a partially trained pool in event of a major emergency. There would be major social implications, both positive and negative, but it's worth considering, at least. |

I think it's a great idea. However, I don't think this war is legit anymore, but I definitely think that in the future they shouldn't hesitate. My husband's Army, and it would definitely give a lot of those immature teens and 20-somethings that we have milling about a chance to grow up and become real adults. =D I'm not anti-war as much as I am anti-immaturity. |
