Unfortunately we cannot end the war in Iraq -- it would go on with out us. Seems like somebody's been fighting there for centuries.
Do i think we should pull out? Absolutely. |

There will never be a "victory" in the sense George Bush wants.
It is unwinnable.
The only way to "win" this one is to get the hell out. |

At least 5 more years. There is no quick fix to this whole thing. It will take at least 5 more years (maybe more) for the new Iraqi government and military to be able to protect themselves.
As far as leaving before the job is done-Bush wont work for a pullout because he is too stubborn. 90% of congress (democrats and republicans both) wont push too hard for a pull out because it will show them being weak on terror, anti-military and hurt any chances they have of gaining control of the White House. We are stuck there for a very long time to come. |

I firmly support our troops and my heart is broken at the losses and mangled bodies of our brave men & women. The war will never end in my view. Their are no winners. Wars and rumors of wars lie ahead of us. The Bible is unfolding right before our eyes and yet there are sciptics. We are a retired military family going back into WW2 and we stood together then and our values and morals and life and honer and respect was all so different then, than it is now. It breaks my heart to think of the deteration of this world. I thought it couldn't get worse, but that was childish thinking because it has and it will till the end of time. |

It´s a no-win situation. Winning will only take place when the present Government admits that they didn´t know what the hell they were doing in the first place, subsequently withdrawing all troops, and let the Muslim people solve the mess George Bush & Co. created. I´m a Hon. Vet. and I know that Bush wanted to show that he´s important. He´s only important to the Arms& Energy branch not to the soldiers and definitely not to the poor. Bank on it!!!!!!!!!!! |

First of all, you're in over your head. These people have been fighting for years and are experts in guerrilla warfare. You on the other hand (US Army) have trained only in simulated exercises in a VR environment. Thus they have the upper hand. The case of winning is out of the question. The army at this point is just the pawn which is used as means to an end. The idea is to get possession of the petroleum supplies and the general destabilization of the area.
What is funny is that the US in its minute time of existence is trying to destroy one of the greater civilizations that ever existed in the general Mesopotamian area. Even funnier and more tragic is the fact that during its existence the US have taken part in wars that are of no immediate threat to its grounds. I don't have anything against Americans but it is time that you started reading history and taking greatly into consideration your vote.
And for the sake of it: Just take your people out of there as soon as you can, and let these people resolve their own problems without you acting as a referee. |

We will stay over there as long as Bush is in power ensuring his and his cronies' financial interest; or another 2,000 troops are lost. However, mark my words, this country will soon become a target when other countries, enemies and former allies, have had enough with the US strong-arming of international affairs for the sake of neo-imperialism. All tyrannies fall. |

The politicans need to stop fighting the war and let the ground commanders fight it, until success is achevied. The crap going on now is the same BS that happened in Vietnam. How will we win? Change tactics, get new war plans and get down right brutal with the insurgents. It something most Americans or anyone else does not want to admit, but we need to get brutal with these people. The Nazis are the only people in modern history with success against insurgents and I hate to say it, but we need to try some of those plans. |

We'll win by having the Iraqi government take over the running of their own country and GET THE HELL OUT!!!! |

The US military has had it's hands tied since we've been there.
That has now changed.
1st, SEAL THE BORDERS - This will eliminate the supplies of insurgents that are coming from Iran and Syria. This is being done now.
2nd, Arm the Iraqis to the hilt and turn them loose to hunt down insurgents (terrorists) in their own backyard.
3rd, Once insugents are either eliminated or cut-off from supplies, the security of the country will be in the hands of the Iraqi people.
The troop surge and new aggresive tactics are the only way to have a chance of providing the best opportunity for Iraq's success as a self-providing country.
Hopefully, we can see this through with the stamina it takes to defeat people that just want to die in martyrdom anyway.
August - 2007 - massive demobilization of US Troops. Enough for victory and I'm sorry to say, in time for the November election. |

We have already won the war. We got rid of Saddam, so we accomplished what we went there for. Now we have to help the government quell the sectarian violence that has gotten out of control. Hopefully things will be more under control by the end of the year, but I don't think we can leave till the government can completely take care of itself. I'm hoping by the end of 2008, we can start withdrawing most of our troops. We will still have troops there for the reconstruction projects which will be years in the making. This is a very lengthy project we are engaged in. Democracies aren't formed over night. These things take time. It took Germany a decade or two to recover from Hitler's rule and the devastation of WW2. I'm guessing it will be the same for Iraq. We are there for good. |

The first thing we need to do is kick out every reporter, no matter who the work for. Starting with CNN. Confiscate every camera and destroy them. Then we need to give warning, so that all of the good people of Iraq have a chance to leave, by setting up strategic check points. Next, call in the bombers. Bomb the hell out of the place for a week straight. Then send in the tanks and artillery destroying every thing that moves. Last but not least, send in the troops to clean up.
The only way to destroy an enemy that is not afraid to die, is to kill him by any means necessary. Take the gloves off and unties the hands of our soldiers.
However, I think that we will be in Iraq for ever, it will become another Korea. |

we will win when the tribal factions ALL have equity in the economy and political representation of Iraq.this way, true democracy will be achieved.and yes, there will still be radicals, but that problem would be more easily handled by a centralized Iraqi government.
also, more Special Forces should be utilized to do what they do best-work with the locals-given a free hand, and given unlimited resources and FULL SUPPORT from the other military commanders in the region |

iraq has very bad situation right now , u know, because of many things. lots of countires want iraq land for themselves and oil too.
that is why u can see there are lots of problems there.
all countries around the iraq try to take the control of iraq in their hands.
and secend they try to make sunni and shiite enemy.
in the time of saddam, they were very close friend, and non of them was kill eachother.
the only way to safe iraq, is that to dont let terrorist come in in iraq and makeing friendship between shitte and sunni. |

By taking Muqtada el-Sadr by the short hairs and laying down the law to him that if he doesn't disarm his militia and turn against Iranian sponsored help, he will be neutralized. By closing off all border entries from Syrian and Iranian influence and assistance. By threatening Iran with bombing raids if they don't call off their assistance. By stopping the flow of money supporting the Sunnis that is coming in from Syria, Saudi Arabia, etc. |

We need to talk more about victory than we do about defeat. This crap about "one last try" is exactly that; crap. There is no try. There is only do or do not.
This country should never agree to commit troops, and not be willing to at least sustain support for those troops and their mission in the Congress as well as the Oval Office. Congress can't say that the President took us to war recklessly, when most of them voted in favor of that same war. If we go to war, we need to have it in our head that we must achieve our goals. There is no such thing as "peace with honor". That's called defeat where I come from.
This conflict, and any other conflict that we engage in from now on will be fought as much in the theater of public perception as it will on the battlefield. Therefore, we can't have our Congress handing the enemy talking points, or have our press giving terrorists face time without clearing it through our intelligence people. Too bad if they don't want us to question their patriotism, because it looks questionable to me!
And we can't make unreasonable demands of our troops like tell them they can't shoot back at people in Mosques who have already desecrated that Mosque by killing from within. |

The aggressive presence in Iraq will be there for a long time. We cannot just up and pullout until we are sure of the stability of the countries infrastructure. To do so would mean two things: 1) The rest of the world could be dragged into another war in the future and 2) America would be blamed again for pulling out too soon and leaving people to fend for themselves. Stability is the key. Stability with direction from the UN to keep all sides in a passive-non waring state of mind. |

It is a case of damned if we do and damned if we don't, if we pull out and Iran invades we will be back in there with many more lives lost, if we stay and we are no longer welcome in that country we will lose more lives. So it is a no win situation. We cannot win the war, we cannot afford to lose the war so what do we do. I think we need to err on the side of getting the troops home and out of harms way and to secure our own borders and let the middle east settle things for themselves. |

This very difficult. it may be too late to win. maybe we should cut our losses and return home a defeated army of losers. I am sorry but these are just the facts. They beat us.
At least we can watch them all kill each other after we leave.
Then IRAN will step in and take control and maybe ARABS will intervene to prevent this and a bigger war will happen. we should try to stay out of it if possible. The fewer muslims in the world, the less problems we will have in future. maybe next time we win.
"He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day"
Maybe we can defeat muslims after they weaken each other in religious wars. That is the smart play, but we do not have a smart president. He is an egotistical fool playing army with his soldiars like a kid. |

it will never end the conflict in Iraq will go on for centuries to come unless we find a stronger leader to take control of Iraq. Al Maliki is not strong enough. Iran has a chance to attack us in Iraq, this is a bad scenario. We are wasting our money, time and people in Iraq. Forming a democracy in Iraq puts the country in a unstable position, we should of left saddam in there his government controlled both the sunnis and shites from attacking one another. |

In reality, we will be there for years to come, regardless of what politicians say. How will we win? Well, that depends on your definition of winning.
In my opinion, the best thing to do is get our troops out now, and let Iraq fall into civil war, us being there is only prolonging the inevitable. Some experts already say Iraq is in a civil war. In short, getting out now isn't "cut and run."
In summary, the U.S.being in Iraq is hindering progress in Iraq, if the Iraqi's are depending on U.S./coalition forces for security, then what's their motivation to want to take charge of their government? That's why we need to pull out and bring our troops home now. |

The enemy, in this case, is an enemy without borders or countries. Makes it very difficult...because its not a case of winning the geography of one country. Pulling out would leave a more dangerous and unstable world for everyone...the US included. As much as I hate the war itself, and the treachery that took place in order for the US to become involved, it is not a good idea to just cut and run. It would leave a country open for terrorists and the like to occupy. And that is something the world DOES NOT NEED - a terrorist occupied oil supply. |

If we didnt go to war with Iraq .They would not of stopped at the world trade center they would of kept on bombing us and bombing. I hate that our troops are over there but thats what all the men and women in the military signed up for to protect us FREEDOM IS NOT FREE everyone has there opinions but i support the war because if we just sat back and said oh well they wont bomb us again we would all be screwed... If we pull out of Iraq guess what they are coming over here who knows when it will end but its just the price we have to pay for freedom |

I think it is a thing which affects not only to US but rest of world because peace was more compromised since that war. World and US are more insecure than before and specially lot of people are dying: military men, civilians and back home families...back home families die a bit because it must be awful having a loved one at war and if the loved one dies then the family dies a bit with it-
US should finish war giving back the authority to Iraqi people, giving them their sovereignty |

Great question amazon! The difficulty of war is knowing when it over then how do we leave? Do we go out shooting, and just leave all our military equipment behind like what happened in Nam? Seems here knowing when it's over is the first question to be answered. The question of we should have never gone is already answered and the next needs addressing. It' has appeared to the majority we are intangled in a religous war, which NOBODY wants. I believe this administration projects to us 'what happens if we leave it gets worse where fanatics overthrow what we've started and we have to go back but congress dos't permitt it. I feel Bush and his constiguants backs are against the wall and are buying time, hopeing to leave it to the next president. Same as LBJ did. Nixon took the fall for what Kennedy actually started and LBJ escalated much has happened in the Iraq struggle. From Reagan to Bush to Clinton to Bush. He'll pass it on. |

This is war, and the strongest side is in control. It is not the US. The Bush administration should admit that it made a huge mistake and get our troops out of there as soon as possible. |

We need to flood Iraq with troops, just like the terrorists have. Loosen the rules of engagement imposed on our guy already there and let the terrorists know that no matter what they do to us we'll do them one better. |
