I think it's a toss-up between religion and pride. For religion, the reasons are obvious. Pride is something most people do not think about enough.
Additional Details
Women is really a big cause of wars. The only one I can think of is the Trojan War, but I think that was more about something being taken from somebody else.

Historically it has been for land, money and women. In modern context, I dont think anyone wages a war for women although women do get victimized in most wars.

the causes are hard to find the prolonged durations of wars on the other hand are easy, its always arrogant commanders who think it will be done before lunch, from Alexander the Great to Gen. Pattreus you can never underestimate an enemy especially if you are the foreinger and they believe God is on their side. |

Idiots running the countries. Military service should be a requirement, preferably with combat experience, for president. Look at the military veterans we've had. Bush, Sr. fought in a war and, although he did take us to war, we had a goal and a reason. JFK was a combat veteran. Ike was supreme commander during WWII. It's the morons who are completely ignorant of war who get us into quagmires like Iraq. |
