They are immature. Coward is too strong of a word. The people that do it are just too self centered to put their life on the line for someone else. They should have thought about what they were getting into when they first thought to join the military.
JUST A NOTE: This happens in all branches, not just the Army. (well probably all except coast guard lol) |

If someone joins the military and doesn't make the connection they might be sent off to war during their tenure, they are either very stupid or in it for the educational benefits courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Taxpayer.
There is a third possibility and that is that they think they can pick and choose which wars they find valid and worthy. That would make them terribly arrogant.
So in a nutshell, I don't think much of them at all. |

I think its despicable. No one is twisting any ones arm to join the military today, its a volunteer force. For you to join have the military spend all that money training you then to run off, I just don't understand it. Just don't join in the first place there are plenty of us out there who will do it with pride. I can understand being afraid. But that is what courage is all about doing your job in the face of fear. |

COWARDS!!!!!! what ,they want to reep the benefits of the military, but then when it comes down to it they don't want to defend what they signed on to defend. Cowardly. |

By definition, they are deserters.
By opinion, they are cowards.
Since Canada does not give sanctuary to deserters like it did draft dodgers, they will get caught and sent home.
Then they will be Dishonorably Discharged, assuming they do not get a trip to prison for a while. |

As long as I never meet them... no worries! Let em run like the cowards they are.
Ya know... you don't have to be a war-monger to be in the military but I do expect you to do your job. If you were responsible enough to sign the papers, you should be responsible enough to do your job! |

They're cowards. And they're more selfish than those who don't serve their country at all. |

These people must have thought that the military is like any corporate job. 9-5 Monday through Friday with weekend and holidays off. HA!
It is a force of arms. Duh. Defending America is your job. You go where you are told and do what you are told to do. If that means filling sand bags out in the middle of the Iraqi desert then you fill sand bags out in the middle of the Iraqi desert.
It amazing to me to see on Yahoo! Answers those who want to join the military but don't want to get sent to war. News flash: THE MILITARY'S JOB IS WAR!!!!!! Everybody in the military is in the infantry when you think about it. Regardless of what job you trained for you are ultimately a rifleman first. You could be typing reports one second then out in a fox hole defending your post the next.
If you have seen "Battle of the Bulge" the Major played by Charles Bronson runs into a bakery and tells the cooks there to get their rifles. One of the cooks says, "but we're cooks!". Bronson's character then says, "You're in the infantry now. Follow me!".
Damn right!!
So to those who want to join the military I say. GREAT! It is a noble thing to do. But if you don't want the chance to get sent into harm's way then do us all a favor and go work at McDonald's. |

Canada would ship you back via US Military. Traitor and Cowards, is what the person is. |

They are cowards and should be tried as such and possibly for treason if the case warrants it.
Desertion is still punishable by death in time of war although it isn't usually punished that way. |

These people are pussbags. They want to join the military, get the health care, get the money for an education and take full advantage of all the benefits. They think these things are FREE and don't want to have to give anything back. Those benefits are NOT free and being in the military means sometimes you have to do things that you may not agree with and participate in things that are unpopular. But its just like any other job. You have a job to do, you have a boss to answer to, if you can't hack it, then you shouldn't have joined. Our country rewards our brave young men and women for serving their country by paying for an education and if you aren't willing to sacrifice then you have no business getting rewarded. Going to war is a very real possibility these days - for any branch of the military and if anyone thinks that they can sign their name on the dotted line and avoid it, should just put that pen down and walk away. We need MEN (and women) - NOT cowards, defending our country. |

We should shoot them like we did 60 years ago.

Scam artists. All the pay in the army is hazard pay. You join in order to fight wars, and when you aren't fighting you're paid to be available to fight wars. Outside of fighting wars the army has no other purpose.
If you desert the army when a war starts it shows that you were just trying to scam money from the government. |

COWARDICE PIECES OF RAT (NOT NICE WORDS)!!!!!!!!

It happened in Vietnam which was another unjust war. Iraq is the same thing. Some people did not join up to fight in a war that is unjust and one where every American was lied to at worst or mislead at best. I would urge my son or daughter to get to another country quick, quick and would give them all the assistance I could.
By the way, Canada is sending back those who have gone there because of the war and shame on that country. |

good for them. I admire anyone who can stand up against torture, gang rape and illegally invading another country to steal their resources. Its really sad, and sick, that so many americans support such atrocities. |

They are second guessing themselves, big deal. I take it you are perfect in every way? They themselves probably have a hard time dealing with what they are doing but in the long run people make their own choices no one, including you has the right to give them hell for it. |

HEROES!! ...They are acting on human diginity by not doing something they think is immorale. That would be like someone in everyday society coming to you and asking you to steal from someone or kill someone then having you labled a 'coward' for not performing the act. ..Seriously the ""Military" is no different, I don't care how brainwashed some of these soldiers are, they have a first duty to morale behaviour vs. their commanding officers". I do not blame them for running away and would gladly offer my home to them to come to because the US Military structuerdoesn't recognize 'morale values' in this respect which is absolutely wrong! |
