What do you think of the Gurkhas?

The Gurkha's are well known for their bravery and strength.!With their motto "Better to die than be a coward" ,they serve the British Army superbly. They get a raw deal from our Government and deserve to be treated better!!!

I was on guard duty at Cove Camp in 1970. A very dapper looking Gurkha had been arrested by the MP's for beating up 3 paratroopers. There was hardly a scratch on him and his clothing was unruffled. Tough!

I once read an article that outlined the basic requirements in order to join, and it is intense!!!

They are professional soilders and the MOD should respect them more and give them the full privileges of pension they award to British soilders.

A few years ago I saw a TV documentary about retired Gurkha in Nepal many were being robbed of their pensions by local gangs,at that time one old man was supporting his extended family on a pathetic pension from the British Army.He had been awarded the Victoria Cross and it was valued at up to Â£70,000because of its provenance.He was shown wearing it and made it clear he would die before he parted with it made me proud to think that someone who was not British could display such pride in himself for having served a country thousands of miles away.It has become a national tradition for Gurkha's to serve Britain and if they cant get in our army they serve with the Indian who also appreciate their talents.With them soldiering is not just an occupation and training comes second to their natural instincts and fierceness I think we should increase the Gurkha sections in our army and be proud that they chose us to serve.

Friendly to me as a "yank" soldier, they do go into pubs, that is where I "discovered" them.

If in USA often they are the security team on some cruise lines (after they do 20 years with the Regiment), have a few good internet pages, esp, the British Army pages.

Professionals.

The Germans in Italy really were impressed, etc.

Sure could have used them in Vietnam...

So if you cruise and see "Nepal" on the name tag, please do not argue with the gentleman, would be a long swim back to port :-)

Nails!! I watched one do a section attack on his own! He would bellow orders to prepare to move, provide his own covering fire, then shout orders to sprint forward and dive in a holly bush! You've gotta love that kinda ****!

Gurkha's are probably the most loyal fighters in the entire world, if they are your friend then you should be smiling, if they are your foe then you should fear for your life.
They will fight to the death without question and take no prisoners.
They should be shown more respect by the British government for the way they have fought for this poxy country.

The Gurkhas are diehard soldiers who put their lives on the line for british people...and i am outraged at how they are treated by the government...they are fine soldiers,and i for one respect them greatly

In the police, officers who do office jobs are called Gurkha's as they 'take no prisoners' I assume this relates to the fact that the Gurkha's are a very efficient fighting unit.

They come top with the SAS, SRR, SBS, Parachute Regiment, and Pathfinders they're tough and honourable characters show the respect and they'll show you it but if you don't keep away because if they draw their traditional daggers out your a dead man they never draw them out of there sheaths without spilling blood, if they dont spill your blood they'll have to cut their hand with it, its a traditional thing plus they used to keep the skulls of the people they kill also tradition. So my advice to you is if you hear any of the surnames like Limbu, Tapa or Gurung be very nice to them or make sure you can run fast.
