I get emails from my Navy boy and the time sent always says something like 17:50:33 -0800.
I know that 17:50:33 means it is 5:50pm + 33 seconds. but I don't get what the -0800 part means. Help?

i think it's the time zone, like in america there is eastern, pacific, yada yada

The -0800 means that it's probably 5:50 pm + 33 seconds, but -8 hours GMT. It tells you what timezone the time is referring to. |

17:50:33 -0800 means 5:50pm and 33 seconds in the Pacific time zone which is the 8th time zone west of the Greenwich Mean Time. Greenwich Mean Time is the time in England, which because it is unaffected by daylight savings time, is used as the international standard for military coordination. |

sd, dim, and aronie, i believe, are correct. where he is sending the e-mails from, he may be in a different time zone, and when it is sent, it has a "time tag". if you are in a different time zone, or just get the e-mail at a later time, it shows when the person originally sent off the e-mail. it basically tells the difference between GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and the time zone that he is in. |

its military time 17:50 mean 5: 50 pm ans 33 sec, and zero 8 means 8 in the morning. anything with a zero in front is am, and anything else is pm. Its on a 24 hour clock, so just subtract 12 to get the standard time. |
