What does a soldier mean to a common man? How is he treated? As an employee or a lover of his nation?

Look at his status in the society and the privileges that he gets.
Is he given any importance given the fact that he is going to lay his life for you if time comes. Does he have a personal life? Is he welcomed when he decides to join the society after retirement from the armed forces?

A soldier has more privileges than police personnel who also put their lives at risk and we all belong to the common man category in India as we do not have monarchs in our nation.

I consider a soldier as a lover of nation .For me these soldiers are really, have importance and moreover i salute them. They have, acc to me, very good status than any other person in the society.

a soldier to the common man is anyone willing to go out and fight to protect the lives of strangers as well as their families lives. He is treated the same as anyone else, except when a soldier is in uniform, then we either get praised or we get dismissed. Yes, us soldiers do have a personal life. We are always welcomed back to society when we decide to retire. it just takes us alittle while to settle in.

soldier is a common man , coz everybody loves his nation & work for nation .
the loss we getting is due to antinational activities
. that is in both condition a buissinessman ,
/student /employee at any workplace killed by a person is as same as the person to whom soldier is making a defence .
both person are punishable in order by law /police/ soldier.
infact person do a work hard to be a more stronger at his duty depend upon personality is equal .
if anybody having any achivement means it is a property of nation for wat the soldier is working over there coz we need to work together to build up great as well as strong nation at all manner.

In India, for the common man,its a great privilage to join the armed forces due to unemployment.
His job is considered to be one of the toughest and belived to be corruption free.
He has a high moral and but no status(reason status comes from money, there is no money in Indian Defence spl other ranks)
What ever importance that a person gets is only lip service nothing else. Even the army compartments given by railway is withdrawn, this is the importance given by ....
Yes, every body has his/her personal life and future. After retirement even the family members wash their hands if they dont open their purse. Thousands of land cases are pending all over India, who cares? During their serving periods some body was utilising the land free of cost now they turn up as no. one enemy
Our govt does not have any proper plan to implement for the settlement of the retired persons.

are u asking for my opinion or my opinion of common man's opinion?
soldiers are trained to live near borders not for civilised society and i dont think they love the country or its people.
(make note of incidents in trains and areas surrounding defence areas in cities.)

i can only answer this on my experience after ten years in the army, i have struggled to adapt to civie life ill never find buddys
in civie street like the buddys i had in the army,
i have found it hard to find a job since coming out, i think that employers are only interested in people that can do the work.as for privileges,i dont want special treatment all i want is peace and quiet keep my head down find a job and try to lead a decent life
thats the only thing i want and to never pick up a weapon agen,in the army, everything is planed out for you,in civie street its the uncertainty that scares me.but in the end of the day i guess i should not complain as i wanted to join up since i was a kid

Do they really want to kill others?
Surely there are better ways to earn a livelihood. In a better world there will be no need to defend a country. We need to improve ourselves.

same as a police officer.....just a needed evil

well I don't know how we are supposed to be treated, but I can tell you how we are treated in the ARNG in Puerto Rico. Right now we are working with to the police officers according to an order given by the Governor Luis Fortuno. We are working five days a week almost ten hours every day (more or less). We are getting paid less than 100 bucks for every day. The problem is that all the payments are received lately. At this moment, they own us two checks and when they get to three checks they pay just one. Most of us are paying late our loans and doubts, sometimes we don't even have money to eat because we spend a considerable amount of time at the streets, so we have to eat out and if you told the SGT that you don't have money to eat and you are going to do some easy works, like fixing a car or something to get some money to keep working the rest of the week he would suspend you for two days and when you came back to work he send you to the far place so you will be the one working more than ten hours. To be clear yes we are part of the US Army. We send complains but they get stock in the chain of command. Another problem is that we are having interventions with delinquents and criminals in the streets and to be honest I don't remember the face of the first person who I arrested. We ask to have a weapon license and when we have all done and some of us had the license in ours hands, someone with a high position in the chain of command cancelled the order and revoked all the licenses that were submitted, and know we have to spend $600 (more or less) like any other citizen to have the license.
