How can anyone possibly articulate what mad men (or mad women for that matter) are thinking when about to blow themselves up along with perhaps hundreds of others. The men are offered virgins by the score; what are the women suicide bombers offered? Male virgins? Not very tempting I would say.

What kind of religion teaches killing, hatred and the slaughter of innocents? It is beyond comprehension as is the answer to the question.

I'm thinking that person truly thinks about the 'happiness' that awaits them on the other side. I'm sure they pray that their families will be safe. Because remember, in their minds, they are doing what they see as something that has to be done.

Your in the business of saving lives so you can't imagine what is going on in his mind? It's a totally different mind set. His values and yours are different. You value life, he doesn't. In his mind he is doing a totally rational and good thing. You can't beat that. Unfortunately all people do not think the same. Are maybe it's a good thing that people think differently. Maybe people should have the same values and goals for there life and there family's lives. They certainly don't value life.

Better question: Why does he do it? Besides the 40 virgins or whatever. Something must be quite wrong to see blowing yourself up as the way to correct it.

He thinks how proud his family will be.

He's relieved that the wait is over.

Too bad he's wrong about the first. But don't mistake his commitment. People who do this are genuinely convinced, not crazy. For many young men, this is their ticket to social approval and the elevation of their family in the eyes of the community. Mothers whose sons have immolated themselves -- particularly if they've taken many kafirs (infidels) with them -- are revered on the Arab street.

If we could just remove the second motivation, and find a way to make suicide-murder as abhorrent in the Muslim world as it is in ours, we'd be much closer to stopping suicide bombers.

But until Muslim culture stops celebrating "martyrdom", there will be no end to it.
