It's a course and a lab that you take along with your other college courses. It teaches you leadership and military tactics. |

It is a set of courses and experiences in which you learn leadership - by being (by rotation within the group) a leader. Keep in mind, though, you must also be a good follower. It's all about team spirit.
You will learn small unit infantry tactics, which the Army deems valuable in honing the basic leadership qualities needed in officers. With practice comes confidence.
You will attend camps to practice those skills in a realistic environment. In addition, there are minicourses in weapons familiarization and training, land navigation, water safety, rappelling and physical education. Then, you will attend the ROTC camp where you will be tested on your leadership skills. You'll come back and take a few more courses of history and military organization, in preparation for commissioning as a 2LT.
It is not easy, but with determination, you can do it. Looking back, I can say it was fun at times. Also, do not forget, you must also obtain your Bachelor's Degree. Mine is in Industrial Engineering.
Over the course of my career in the Army, I worked with missiles, vehicle maintenance, fuels, intel (languages), and more. I am now a captain.
I can honestly say that ROTC was one of the most beneficial things I've ever done in my life.

To be an officer you must have certain qualities and generally a higher education. ROTC teaches the prerequisite to becoming a soldier and will help you in many ways even in life. |
