What exactly goes on in DEP?

I want to join the Navy and I heard that in order to join you must complete DEP. How often do you have to go? Once you graduate from Basic Training and have completed DEP to you get any type of awards or promotions?

My first two son's have DEP'd into the Navy as I did. If you do your booklet and pass the oral board you will be an E-2. If you bring in people that sign up BEFORE you leave (# of people I can't remember) then you will be E-3 upon graduation from boot. It is well worth it and highly recommended. It also will prepare you with vocabulary in boot. You will be WAY ahead of those that did not DEP.

DEP is just delayed entry. Nothing really to complete. Most recruiters will have you check in like once a week. Some will help you get into shape. Some will help you learn basic info. Some branches say if you learn some info you can have a higher rank when you complete basic. But generally you have to have it written into your contract.

you are in delayed entry program before you get in to the active military

they just call you every week and you do rank recognition training, take you to hockey games, stuff like that

at least thats what the army did

DEP is Delayed Entry Program and it just means you have to wait a period of time to enter BMT which could be up to a year sometimes depending on how bad its backed up..... Pretty much its a fancy way of saying sit around and wait.

I wait a 4 months before entering the Air Force but it might be different for the Navy.

no awards maybe promotions
if you help your recruiter buy bringing in some people in the navy then might give u E3
need to speak to your recruiter and they will give u a number
