What happens if a soldier goes awol?

It depends on a lot of things e.g. it can be bumped up to desertion if they can prove you had no intentions of returning. Or you can get minor restrictions for being late to muster. Look it up at http://www.ucmj.us/

Dude, most of these answer are form people who have no idea what they are talking about. If you go AWOL (in the army) and are gone less than 30 days, you will not be seperated from the army. If you are absent for more than 30 days you will be DFR(Dropped From Role). AWOL will definately get you a field grade article 15. Which means losing 1/3rd of a months pay for 3 month, reduction in rank, and 45 days extra duty. Unless while AWOL you miss movement, then you're screwed either way. DFR is quite different. A lot of variables are considered in a desicion after being DFR. You can bet that you will be seperated from the military. Whether you go for a 2 year term to Levinworth is up the post CG. If you have a really good excuse and I mean a really good one. It's Chapter 10 discharge Other Than Honorable condition. Which is pretty light considering...

Now, if you go to Levinworth, I don't know what you discharge classification would be. It seems pretty hard to get a Dishonorable Discharge.

Depends on if they are finished with training. Since its still technically a time of war, they can be punished up to death. If they are gone more than 30 days its considered a felony and they are issued a warrant. Once picked up they go to courts martial. Receive a discharge, and possibly could do some time in jail. If they are still in IADT and they are gone less than 30 days they will get a disciplinary action taken against them and possibly put back through training, if not then they will get kicked out. Its really bad and if they want to they can throw the book at you. There are other ways to get out of the military. But why would you want to? Shouldnt have joined if you just wanted the money and didnt want to really serve your country...

Spend time in Leavenworth, Federal Felony conviction, Dishonorable Discharge.

It depends on how long they are gone, if they turn themselves in, etc. look up the UCMJ and it will tell you about AWOL and desertion.

You to go to federal prison in Leavenworth, then dishonorably discharged. When that happens your career is over. It will be stamped on every job application you fill out.

hubby went awol for 6 months. they wont let him call me , and we have not been payed in 1 1/2 months. is this possible to leave a usmc wife in the street with a blanket?
